    The department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a temporary. part-time Research Assistant 2 to work on the UHealth campus. The Research Assistant 2 (A) assists with and explores innovations to research and strives to improve implementation and family outcomes. The Research Assistant 2 (A) ensures compliance with University policies, rules, and regulations to meet federal, state, and local standards pertaining to safety and ethics. This position involves sample processing and other laboratory work in support of research in immune recovery or immune activation in context of stem cell transplantation or cell therapy.

    CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

    + Plans and implements research experiments, according to research protocols, to assure high-quality scientific results in support of applicable project goals.

    + Assists with assessing the feasibility of implementing innovations.

    + Assesses data trends and develops reports and presentations.

    + Supports the initiation of new research by reviewing and synthesizing literature.

    + Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.

    + Assists in the preparation of scientific papers, reports, and manuscripts.

    + Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

     

    Department Specific Functions

     

    + Catalogs sample inventory and manages electronic database of specimen repository.

    + Retrieve specimens banked specimens and prepare for shipment or analysis.

    + Conduct laboratory assignments, including preparing and preserving peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and other components from blood samples.

    + Conduct procedures and maintain accurate records; enter data accurately in notebook or electronic database assist in solving technical protocol execution problems.

    + Operate routine scientific laboratory equipment.

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    + High School diploma or equivalent

    + Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required; Experience and/or willingness to work with human blood samples preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

    + Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

    + Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

    + Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

    + Ability to get certified in lab safety, safe handling of human specimens, and handle confidential data with discretion.

    + Ability to communicate well and work well in a team setting.
