    Join the City of Missoula Parks & Recreation team as aWater Aerobics Instructor and make a difference through movement! This position offers a great opportunity to lead engaging, water-based fitness classes for all skill levels—held on Saturdays atCurrents or Splash Montana. You’ll help foster a positive, welcoming space where participants can improve their health while having fun in the water.

     

    Ideal for those with a background in fitness, recreation, or sports, this role is perfect if you enjoy working with the public and can communicate instructions clearly and supportively.     **$18.00/class non-certified and $22.00/class certified

    Essential Functions

    + Plan, organize, evaluate, and lead classes/lessons within specified program.

    + Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipment; instruct participants with varied fitness and skill levels; perform emergency first aid.

    + Inspect and set up sports and fitness equipment; observe all participants to ensure safety.

    + Demonstrate and/or explain how to perform various exercises, routines, and techniques to minimize injuries and improve fitness and performance.

    + Monitor participants techniques and progress to ensure proper form and adapt program as needed.

    + Provide options during class/lesson to help participants feel successful.

    + Maintain and organize various paperwork, schedules, and other required resources.

    + Promote positive sportsmanship and stewardship towards all recreation facilities (indoor and outdoor) for participants and spectators.

    + Other duties as assigned, based on training and qualifications.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

     

    + Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in recreational sports and fitness activities.

    + Knowledge of rules and strategies of specified program with the ability to interpret and apply City adapted rules and regulations.

    + Skill in promoting positive and safe environments.

    + Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with diverse individuals.

    + Ability to effectively break instructions down to specific skills and techniques with patience and tact.

    + Ability to lead and work with both adults and youth of all ages.

    + Ability to effectively meet and communicate with the public and deescalate stressful situations.

    + Ability to maintain and exhibit integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.

    + Ability to maintain and foster a culture of professionalism, adhere to departmental and City standards and specifications, and support a positive team environment.

    + Ability to accept criticism and resolve conflicts with facilitating outcomes while maintaining a calm demeanor.

    + Ability to learn departmental and City of Missoula practices and procedures.

    Working Conditions:

    + Positions require the ability to lift 50 lbs. or less.

    + Work environment may involve occasional exposure to unavoidable seasonal weather conditions.

     

    Qualifications and Additional Application Materials

     

    + Any combination of training and experience with leading sports or fitness programs.

    + Must be of legal age to perform the duties of the position.

    + Must have CPR/First Aid & AED certifications.
