Description
+ Create and implement large-scale data collection methods using APIs, web scraping, and other proprietary techniques to gather data from social media and digital platforms.
+ Build, test, and assess algorithms and software tools, including Large Language Models, to analyze social media data, focusing on message volume, communication trends, and the impact of climate change-related messaging.
+ Produce peer-reviewed articles, white papers, and presentations to share research findings with the academic and broader community.
+ Partner with colleagues to design and develop interactive websites and/or dashboards to effectively communicate research insights to the public.
+ Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and explore additional funding opportunities to support research initiatives.
+ No teaching responsibilities are required for this position.
Requirements
+ A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is preferred; however, candidates with exceptional expertise transitioning from industry to academia will be given strong consideration.
+ Proven expertise in research methodologies, including social network analysis, statistical techniques (e.g., multinomial logistic regression, structural equation modeling, vector autoregression, cross-lagged panel analysis), open-ended data mining, applied machine learning, Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, image recognition, web scraping, and API integration.
+ Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar tools for data analysis.
+ Background in fields such as Computational Social Science, Data Science, Computer Science, Political Science, Communication Science, quantitative History of Science, Sociology, Psychology, or related disciplines involving social media data mining.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively present findings and collaborate with diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience with interactive data visualization and web development to enhance research accessibility.
+ Familiarity with cloud-based platforms for data storage and computational tasks.
+ Knowledge of climate change misinformation, obstructionism, political dynamics, and/or communication strategies.
+ Proven ability to work within interdisciplinary research teams, manage projects, and engage in cross-sector collaborations (e.g., between academia and NGOs).
