    Evening/Overnight Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisor. Oversees evening and overnight pharmacists and technicians. Working supervisor with scheduled desk days.

    Department Description:

    Pharmacy technicians at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center have many exciting opportunities to provide excellent service. They work with state-of-the-art automated technology such as pharmacy carousels and automated dispensing machines. Some technicians work in the IV room compounding IVs and chemotherapy for patients. Other positions include pharmacy buyers, automation specialists, narcotic surveillance, surgery satellite pharmacy, and medication reconciliation.

    Position Summary:

    The supervisor is responsible for oversight of pharmacy programs, services, and staff within their specialty group. The supervisor serves as a clinical resource for the provision of pharmaceutical care. The supervisor promotes strong relationships with the medical staff and other healthcare professionals and departments within the hospital and system. The supervisor promotes clinically rational drug therapy and sound pharmaceutical care through the development of new (or expansion of existing) pharmacy practice programs, drug therapy policies, and other programs.

    Responsibilities

    + As directed, initiate, develop, and carry out rules and regulations pertaining to administration and professional policies of the pharmacy specialty area which include those of the Drug Enforcement Agency, Tennessee Board of Pharmacy, OSHA, and Federal Drug Administration.

    + Coordinate and supervise the work performance of the personnel within the practice area to ensure adherence to defined standards.

    + Serve as a member of clinical committees within the practice area.

    + As required, assume role of pharmacist in charge within the practice area.

    + Recruit, interview, select, and employ excellent new pharmacists within the practice area. Responsible for performance evaluations and necessary disciplinary actions of staff within the practice area.

    + Participate in hospital and health system medication use evaluations to achieve optimal efficiency.

    + Act as a liaison with nursing staff, physicians, and patients concerning pharmaceutical integrity.

    + Ensure distributive and clinical pharmacy activities within the practice area follow applicable standards. Direct contact with surveyors for accreditation.

    + Responsible for monitoring, developing, and evaluating distributive and clinical activities provided by pharmacy staff within the practice area.

    + Responsible for oversight of patient and staff education regarding medications within the practice area.

    + Lead and participate in the provision of pharmaceutical care within the practice area.

    + Maintain outstanding skills as a clinical pharmacy practitioner.

    + Coordinates and oversees student and staff education within the practice area. Ensures staff within the practice area participate in regular in-service training programs for pharmacy staff and other health care professionals.

    + Participate on medical staff committees throughout the hospital and health system and promote a strong positive working relationship with the medical staff.

    + Ensures staff participation in the clinical intervention program data within specialty area..

    + As required, provide operational planning and budgeting within the practice area.

    + Establish and maintain effective channels of communication.

    + Keep pharmacy personnel up to date with the state of the art clinical information, practices, and equipment within practice area.

    + Assure adequate and appropriate staffing within practice area.

    + Lead staff within specialty area in development projects (design, implementation, measuring impact).

    + Coordinate with other program areas and senior management as appropriate according to the organizational structure.

    + Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:

    None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

    Licensure Requirement:

    Current TN pharmacist license .
