Description
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Interim Assistant Controller to help support out client based in San Jose, California. In this long-term contract role, you will oversee critical financial operations, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support various accounting processes. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of affordable housing initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.
• Oversee ownership interests in LLCs and LPs to maintain accurate accounting records.
• Manage intercompany and equity accounting processes, ensuring proper entries and reconciliations.
• Collaborate with auditors, property accountants, and asset management teams to facilitate year-end audits and tax return filings for multiple entities.
• Prepare and review financial reports to meet deadlines set by investors and lenders.
• Monitor and verify accounting data for year-end trial balances and ensure accuracy in the asset management system.
• Ensure that project budgets and financial projections accurately reflect expenses, accruals, and adjustments.
• Coordinate and prepare construction draw requests in collaboration with development and accounting teams.
• Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, along with internal and external audit requirements.
• Develop and enhance internal controls and accounting policies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements • Proven experience in accounting, financial reporting, and auditing processes.
• Strong knowledge of accounting functions, including intercompany and equity accounting.
• Proficiency in accounting software systems and tools.
• Familiarity with loan structures, origination, and renewal processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage compliance with tax reporting requirements and audit procedures.
• Excellent analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including asset management and property accountants.
• Experience in preparing financial statements and managing construction project budgets.
