About the Role
A well-established, mid-size full-service law firm with deep roots in New Jersey is seeking a Redevelopment Attorney to provide legal counsel on complex redevelopment projects, urban renewal initiatives, and related municipal matters. In this role, you will collaborate across practice areas to address redevelopment challenges and guide clients through legal, regulatory, and strategic considerations. The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with elected officials, developers, and public entities in New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities
+ Advise on redevelopment matters including planning, zoning, land use, and eminent domain
+ Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents related to redevelopment projects
+ Ensure compliance with New Jersey’s land use, zoning, and urban renewal laws
+ Support the development and execution of urban renewal plans
+ Represent municipal clients in negotiations, public hearings, and legal proceedings
+ Conduct legal research and analysis focused on NJ redevelopment regulations
+ Work closely with planners, engineers, city officials, and community stakeholders
+ Monitor active redevelopment projects for legal and regulatory compliance
+ Prepare legal memoranda, reports, and client communications
+ Stay current on legal trends and policy changes in redevelopment law
Requirements
Qualifications
+ JD from an accredited law school;
+ admission to the New Jersey Bar is required
+ 3–5 years of relevant experience in redevelopment, land use, municipal law, or real estate
+ Strong working knowledge of New Jersey municipal regulations and redevelopment law
+ Prior experience with NJ government entities or regulatory bodies
+ Excellent negotiation, communication, and legal writing skills
+ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities
+ Meticulous attention to detail and a client-first mindset
Preferred Skills
+ Experience with eminent domain and public-private partnerships in New Jersey
+ Familiarity with NJ environmental regulations impacting redevelopment
+ Knowledge of economic development incentives, tax abatements, and public financing mechanisms
+ Established relationships with NJ municipalities, agencies, or major developers
