Job Summary:
The Desktop Engineer provides technical support in the installation, implementation, administration and deployment of UGI Energy Services standards for corporate images, business applications, networking and telecommunications technologies. Serves as an escalation point within the company, the IT Infrastructure support staff and the Service Desk.
Be a subject matter expert on IT business application projects and within the IT Infrastructure and Operations group. Ability to work as a team with multiple individuals or groups in the resolution of configuration or support issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Extensive background in managing the integration, implementation and support of client/desktop and host/server technologies.
Great troubleshooting and organizational skills, and a strong aptitude to think outside of the box when presented with a complex problem or scenario.
Act as 3rd level escalation for desktop issues
Technical Expert with desktop computing hardware, printers, software, and communications, and mobile device products
Be a technical contact for IT Infrastructure and Operations in the delivery of new desktop computing technologies and innovations.
Partner with various IT department members in testing and coordination of services to be delivered to computing devices (e.g., desktop, laptop, thin client, or mobile devices).
Support business justification, technical design, and continuous improvement of Desktop Services and product/service delivery to employees.
Responsible for second and third level support of escalated Service Desk incidents.
Identify, evaluate, implement, and use desktop management utility software, such as SCCM, MDM Solution (MS Intune) and other emerging technologies to install, upgrade, maintain, and de-commission computing equipment as well as mobile devices.
Develop and maintain technical documentation for custom systems and application deployment configurations. Update documentation as necessary to reflect upgraded/revised systems and procedures.
Train Desktop Support and Service Desk staff in the use and maintenance of desktop technology management tools and utility software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with the integration of desktop computing hardware, printers, and software and communications products, particularly those of Microsoft, Citrix, SAP, HP and Lenovo.
Experience with the integration of desktop and virtual operating systems such as Azure, VMWare, AWS.
Experience with Group policy Objects (GPO). Scoping, WMI queries, delegation.
Experience with Desktop patching.
Exposure to VBScript, PowerShell or other scripting language(s) for the deployment of software, configuration changes, and upgrades to desktop and server computers.
Exposure to Disaster Recovery Planning, change management, as well as voice telephony and video technologies.
Exceptional interpersonal communication, presentation and leadership skills, both written and oral.
Exposure to software security vulnerability assessment and software security patch management via the SCCM Client Management Suite, and MDM Solution (MS Intune) technology.
Exposure to administrative and preventative assessment of anti-virus and anti-malware software.
Capability in server and desktop technology administration (Windows 10 & 11) and diagnostic and problem-solving expertise within these environments.
Working knowledge of iOS versions and hardware capabilities
Experience with the integration of desktop computing hardware, printers, and software and communications products, particularly those of Microsoft, Citrix, SAP, HP and Lenovo.
Education and Experience:
College degree preferred. Computer Science or related IT majors.
Specific IT training or skills required:
3+ years of experience in the Information Technology field
Project Management experience
Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle exposure
Desktop Virus and Security Maintenance
Citrix Presentation Server Technologies
Minimum 3 years of experience, working successfully in a high customer contact role, with skills in corporate imaging, software deployment, Active Directory administration, and workstation setup/user data transfer, and mobile technologies
Experienced in Management of services delivery, in a customer focused desktop technology environment, encompassing PC technology acquisition, installation, maintenance and retirement.
Knowledge of SCCM, MDM Solution (MS Intune) or Citrix a plus.
