Job Summary
This position conducts training on a variety of subjects in the ever-changing profession of Law Enforcement on an “as needed” basis for the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Incumbent provides instruction in academic subjects such as law, criminal procedures, crisis intervention, reality-based training scenarios, as well as hands-on applications including firearms, defensive tactics, first aid, and vehicle operations.
Under the general supervision of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Training Unit, instructors may perform teaching duties at Spokane County Sheriff’s Office facilities or at various educational institutions.
Hourly pay for this position is $42.50.

Examples of Duties

Provide classroom instruction.
Develop lesson plans.
Identify needs and opportunities for new training.
Teach defensive tactics.
Teach firearms proficiency.
Teach first aid and first response.
Teach vehicle operations proficiency.
Research new tactics and techniques.
Conduct training for seasoned deputies and new recruits.
Conduct in-service training.
Produce training bulletins.
Write reports and recommendations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work is performed predominately on-site for this position, mainly at the Spokane County Sheriff's Training Center.
Minimum Requirements
Must be a citizen of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) recipient; must be able to speak, read, and write the English language; high school diploma or GED.
+ Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher with an equivalent to one (1) year of full-time work experience with a law enforcement agency or like employment OR
+ An Associate’s degree with an equivalent to three (3) years of full-time work experience with a law enforcement agency or like employment OR
+ A high school graduate or equivalent (GED) with a combined total equivalent to five (5) years of full-time work experience with a law enforcement agency or like employment
Must be able to pass background investigation.

A full-time law enforcement officer retired from service or individuals with previous instruction experience is desirable.
