Job Title: Pipefitter
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Pipefitter to install and maintain ships' piping systems, including steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning the layout of pipe sections, cutting and boring holes in bulkheads and decks for pipe installation, and cutting and threading pipe and pipe fittings. Additionally, the Pipefitter will bend pipes to specified shapes, bolt or weld brackets to support pipe systems, and connect pipes to various ship equipment. The role also involves repairing, packing, and adjusting valves, testing installed systems for leaks, and ensuring that all systems meet specifications. Compliance with Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) and safety standards observed by the Shipyard is required.
Responsibilities
+ Plan layout of pipe sections and cut and bore holes in bulkheads and decks for pipe installation.
+ Cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats.
+ Bend pipes to specified shapes and bolt or weld brackets to support pipe systems.
+ Connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers, laundry and galley equipment, pumps, tanks, and other ship equipment.
+ Repair, pack, and adjust valves.
+ Test installed systems for leaks and ensure that systems meet specifications.
+ Ensure Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) are properly completed prior to starting tasks.
+ Follow safety standards observed by the Shipyard and hot work protocols.
Essential Skills
+ 5+ years of recent experience for 1st class or 3+ years of recent experience for 2nd class Pipefitter.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ Experience with pipe fitting, threading, cutting, and ship/vessel systems.
+ Ability to read blueprints and follow tag out procedures.
+ Must be able to butt weld, install pipe hangers, fit flanged joints, and thread pipes.
+ Adherence to tag out procedures and WAF requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Rapid Gate certification preferred for local candidates and required for Per Diem candidates.

Work Environment
The work environment is primarily an outdoor shipyard setting, supporting work at various locations including Nassco, BAE, MHI, and Norfolk Naval. Shifts are typically 1st shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) with the possibility of 2nd shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM) as needed. Candidates must be able to work weekends, usually Saturdays, and overtime as required. The average work week ranges from 40 to 55 hours, depending on the workload.

This is a Contract position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $25.00/hr.
