Job Description
As a mechanical design engineer or mechanical designer, you will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of mechanical solutions across diverse applications. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality products that meet client specifications and industry standards. In this position, you will be performing design and manufacturing support duties for industrial power products such as switchboards.
Responsibilities
+ Design and develop mechanical solutions for a wide range of industrial applications, adhering to client requirements and industry standards.
+ Generate accurate and comprehensive bills of materials (BOMs) based on design specifications, ensuring compatibility of all components.
+ Create/modify routings to select the proper manufacturing steps as well as the allotted time a product needs.
+ Create detailed 3D models, assembly drawings, and detailed part drawings using industry-standard CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor).
+ Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, application engineers, project managers, and clients, to gather requirements, share progress, and address design challenges.
+ Participate in design reviews to ensure that designs align with project goals, specifications, and industry best practices.
+ Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to continuously improve design processes and ensure compliance.
+ Contribute to the optimization of designs, focusing on factors such as cost-efficiency, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
+ Support the procurement team by providing technical guidance on component selection and vendor relationships.
+ Provide technical assistance during the manufacturing and assembly phases, addressing any issues that arise and ensuring the accurate implementation of designs.
+ Perform designs and engineering in accordance with job specifications, site layouts, size restrictions, and existing equipment that is being replaced.
Essential Skills
+ BS in Mechanical Engineering or Associates degree in CAD or related engineering field.
+ Proficiency in using CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks.
+ Experience in sheet metal design.
+ Mechanical aptitude.
+ Experience working with manufacturing teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Mechanical design experience with switchboards, switchgear, power distribution equipment is a plus.
+ Knowledge of UL 508A (UL standard for sheet metal) is a plus.
+ Knowledge of UL 891 (UL standard for switchboards) is a plus.
+ Hands-on hobbies such as working on cars, electronic gadgets, construction, robots, building things, etc.
Work Environment
This role is based in an office environment, but you will also work with the manufacturing team to discuss designs and ensure they are manufacturable. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with a start time between 6am-7am. The work is fast-paced and deadline-driven, with customer orders moving from design to manufacturing in days or weeks.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
