Through visitor engagement, educational programming, and lots of behind-the-scenes work, Operations keeps the network of state parks open, accessible, and welcoming for all. *Job Opening:* The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking candidates for an Education Coordinator – Program Coordinator II at The Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The mission of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is to promote science-based decision-making that leads to healthy coastal ecosystems. This position will work with Reserve staff and organizational partners to develop programs to promote estuarine literacy and sustainable behaviors to diverse audiences including community members, teachers, and students. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Oversee and monitor all education and interpretation activities for the Waquoit Bay Reserve. Confer with management, education, and other Reserve and DCR staff to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities, and develop and implement recommendations for changes as needed. • Lead strategic planning, conduct audience needs assessments, and plan and manage program budget for the Reserve’s education sector. Develop and implement an annual work plan to meet education goals of the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) and DCR. • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the School and Interpretive Services Coordinator, interpretive staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers to meet Reserve education program goals. • Use social science and sound pedagogical techniques to develop and target programs for specific audiences, including underserved groups. Develop, nurture, and strengthen partner relationships to better reach underserved audiences. • Develop partnerships and work with organizations with missions similar to DCR and the Reserve, as well as organizations of target audiences, to foster wise stewardship of coastal resources. • Develop partnerships with school districts and use sound pedagogical techniques to create curriculum and resource materials, present workshops, and provide one-to-one consultation for teachers to increase environmental literacy and stewardship behaviors in teachers and students. • Work closely with NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management and with other Education Coordinators within the NERRS. Attend NERRS meetings, lead and serve on national committees, participate in and implement national programs to foster exchange of ideas and maintain status of Waquoit Bay Reserve within the NERRS. • Work with the Events and Volunteer Coordinator, School and Interpretive Services Program Coordinator, and other Reserve staff to develop interpretive schedules and plan special events and community workshops to engage and educate the public on coastal issues and stewardship. • Present programs to student, teacher, and community audiences both on and off site to increase understanding of coastal issues and science and promote desired stewardship behaviors. • Plan and conduct teacher trainings to improve teaching of estuarine literacy and reach a wider audience. • Coordinate closely with DCR’s Interpretive Services Division. Attend meetings when needed, participate in and implement DCR interpretive programs to educate about and promote wise use of DCR resources. • Coordinate with the Friends of Waquoit Bay Reserve on programs such as Summer Science School and other special community education events. • Write and manage grants to fund projects to further the Reserve’s mission. • Write press releases, develop flyers, and coordinate other forms of publicity to increase attendance at programs. • Update, design, and coordinate the fabrication of exhibits and interpretive signs to enhance visitor experiences and increase understanding of coastal science and desired stewardship behaviors. • Develop brochures and content for the education section of the WBNERR website, as well as other educational materials to increase understanding of coastal issues and stewardship and raise awareness of the Reserve’s work and mission. • Write and review reports, memoranda, etc. • Monitor program impact and conduct and report on performance metrics. • Answer phone and e-mail inquiries from the public, students, and teachers, and serve as a primary point of contact for Reserve education program initiatives. • Represent the Reserve at state, local, and regional events and help share the work of the education sector and the NERRS more broadly. • Assist with other duties as necessary and work as an integral part of the Waquoit Bay Reserve team to help the Reserve achieve its mission. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3-5 years supervisory experience 3-5 years program development and evaluation experience Experience developing networks and relationships with diverse community members and organizations to plan and implement programs Knowledge of coastal ecosystems, educational theory, and interpretive techniques Excellent public speaking and written communication skills *First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.* ** ** MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the-required experience.* II. A Graduate degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.* III.
