    Minimum Qualifications:

    One year of professional experience in communications or a related role.

     

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in AP style.

     

    Strong organizational and project management skills.

     

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with content management systems.

     

    Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a Level 2 background check.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field.

     

    Two years of professional experience in communications or a related role.

     

    Experience working in a government, scientific, or research communications environment.

     

    Demonstrated ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, engaging content for broad audiences.

     

    Familiarity with website management platforms (e.g., SharePoint, WordPress) and digital accessibility best practices.

     

    Experience with internal communications strategies and tools (e.g., newsletters, intranets, staff messaging platforms).

     

    Proficiency with content creation tools, including graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and/or basic video editing software.

    Requirements:

    Valid driver’s license

     

    Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard time.

    Position Overview and Responsibilities:

    This position will serve as the Internal Information Specialist for the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI), a division of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The Internal Information Specialist will be responsible for enhancing internal communication efforts within FWRI across FWC. This role focuses on creating and distributing content that keeps staff informed, engaged, and aligned with the agency’s goals. The successful candidate will serve as a key liaison between the Communications Office and FWRI sections, ensuring the effective communication flow, and coordination of initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Develop and manage internal communication products to ensure FWRI messaging, updates, and stories are reaching key stakeholders.

     

    Draft, edit and distribute internal and external newsletters.

     

    Translate technical research into plain, engaging language.

     

    Assist with website maintenance, including content creation and updates and reviewing images

     

    and PDF documents for accessibility.

     

    Plan, create, and manage editorial content calendars.

     

    Collaborate with communications team members, FWRI staff, and cross-functional teams across FWC.

     

    Coordinate events, speaker requests, MarineQuest displays and logistics.

     

    Respond to external requests via AskFWC, providing timely and accurate information.

     

    Review and organize legacy videos/photos, adding metadata for improved access.

     

    Create evergreen social media content to support internal and external engagement.

     

    Provide back-up support at public events (e.g., manatee rescues/releases), including public engagement and photo/video capture.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Strong knowledge of the principles and techniques of public relations, mass communications, journalism, or marketing.

     

    Proficiency in AP Style.

     

    Excellent copywriting and editing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

     

    Strong organizational and project management abilities; skilled in balancing multiple projects and deadlines.

     

    Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills across diverse teams.

     

    Experience engaging and educating varied audiences through written and verbal communication.

     

    Familiarity with website and digital content management.

     

    Proficiency in content creation (writing, photos, and video production).

     

    Knowledge of ADA compliance and accessibility best practices.
