    Position Title:

    Assistant Director of Benefits

    Organization:

    Job Responsibilities:

    Administer and Oversee Benefits Programs:

    + Manage all aspects of RIT’s comprehensive benefit plans, including medical,prescription drug, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance program (EAP), retiree and various ancillary benefits.

    + Ensure consistent and effective administration in compliance with applicable laws and university policies.

    Strategic Support and Analysis:

    + Support benefits strategy through in-depth analysis, technical support, project management, and relationship building.

    + Participate in setting the benefits strategy and oversee completion and analysis of external benefits surveys.

    Policy Development and Communication:

    + Develop,interpret, modify, and communicate benefits policies and administrative procedures.

    + Manage employee benefits communication and education activities,including developing high-quality materials and overseeing the benefits website.

    Vendor and Broker Collaboration:

    + Proactively work with brokers and vendors to identify cost savings and improvements.

    + Develop and maintain effective relationships with third-party providers and coordinate resolution of complex plan administration issues.

    Problem Solving and Process Improvement:

    + Respond to benefits issues, troubleshoot problems, and identify recurring issues.

    + Review and analyze processes to streamline, automate, and incorporate changes into daily operations.

    Leadership and Staff Management:

    + Provide leadership, direction, and counsel to benefits support staff. Maximize human capital by developing talent, motivating, recognizing, and rewarding contributions.

    + Hold staff accountable for performance goals.

    Compliance and Research:

    + Maintain current knowledge and expertise in employee benefits, conduct research, and make recommendations on legislative actions.

    + Ensure all benefits programs, policies,and communications are compliant with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

    Financial Oversight:

    + Assist in establishing and monitoring the University’s benefits budget.

    + Oversee premium payments to third-party providers and manage employee medical and dental plan contributions annually.

    Open Enrollment and Special Projects:

    + Lead the annual open enrollment cycle and assist with planning, design, analysis,modeling, and supporting key projects, including program implementation.

    Required Qualifications:

    Education/Experience:

    + BA/BS degree

    + 7+ years of benefits analysis/administration experience

    + 2+ years supervisory experience

    Skills:

    + Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact successfully across all levels within and outside the organization;customer service orientation.

    + Problem-Solving: Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, adapting knowledge and experience to various situations; ability to troubleshoot effectively.

    + Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.

    + Analytical Skills: Quantitative analytical skills, including advanced proficiency in Excel.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master’s degree and/or CEBS, SHRM, or HRCI certification

     

    Higher education experience a plus

     

    Hands-on experience with cloud-based human capital management/HRIS or benefit enrollment systems and reporting

    Job Summary:

    The Assistant Director of Benefits directs the planning, implementation, coordination, operation and evaluation of the University’s core benefits programs. Reporting to the Director of Benefits and supervising benefits support staff, the Assistant Director is responsible for the development and administration of the group health plans, flexible spending accounts, retiree benefits, and various ancillary benefits.

     

    In collaboration with external brokers, vendors, and consultant partners as well as the offices for Legal Affairs and Compliance and Ethics, and human resources colleagues, the Assistant Director of Benefits applies best practices and ensures all benefits programs, policies, and communications are compliant with federal,state and local laws and regulations.
