Position Summary
Coordinates a pre-college program and plans, facilitates, and evaluates related events for the Upward Bound project, ensuring compliance with expected guidelines. Instructs courses for a pre-college program in support of preparing individuals to be successful in their higher education endeavors. This is a full-time, 12-month, professional academic support position. This position reports to the Project Director of Upward Bound. This position will travel to two Upward Bound offices UW-River Falls and Washington Technology Magnet High School in St. Paul.
During the academic school year, much of the programming is implemented at the high school. In the summer months the Coordinator/Advisor will be on the UW-River Falls campus full-time for the 6-week residential summer program taking on a live in residential coordinator duties. Reappointment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding.
Responsibilities
+ Designs and drafts program specific materials and resources for an educational pre-college program
+ Develops, facilitates, and evaluates educational pre-college program content and materials to include educational, social, cultural, and recreational activities for students
+ Identifies opportunities for pre-college program improvement or new service development
+ Schedule, secure, and communicate logistics and resources in support of educational program events and conferences
+ Coordinate student services at the target high school and on the campus of UW-River Falls.
+ Establish and maintain relationships and correspondence with target high school administration and counseling staff
+ Advising caseload of upperclassmen high school students to meet high school graduation and college enrollment objectives
+ Assists with student recruitment, supplemental advising/coaching students and communicating with parents
+ Maintain academic records and prepare reports
+ Chaperone events and field trips may include overnight travel
+ Hybrid telecommuting work may be available at the discretion of the Program Director.
+ Assists the Project Director in interviewing, selecting, training and evaluating instructors, residential advisors, project specialist, residential coordinators and program assistants
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent field
+ Prior experience in Upward Bound/Trio program
+ Proven ability to adapt quickly to changing situations
+ Basic computer skills in word processing, databases, spreadsheets and online platforms
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills
+ Proven ability to support and motivate a wide variety of student populations including high school and college students from varying backgrounds to secure admission and competitive scholarships to colleges
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with a residential live-in summer program
+ Public speaking proficiency
+ Knowledge of student development theory and application on adolescent youth
+ Certification in teaching as well as experience in counseling and/or social work

Employment will require a criminal background check. Final candidates will be required to provide three professional references with at least one being a prior supervisor.
