+ Master’s degree or other advanced degree related to student success in higher education.
+ Six years progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience.
+ Experience supervising full-time staff.
+ Experience with non-clinical case management, behavioral intervention, and students of concern in a college or university setting.
+ Effectively communicate through both verbal and written communication including public speaking.
+ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Terminal degree with preference for individuals in higher education or student development, or other relevant degrees.
+ Seven years progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience.
+ Proven experience as a leader in area(s) related to non-clinical case management, students of concern, student affairs and/or student success at large institutions.
+ Experience building successful teams including supervision, program development, and evaluation.
+ Experience providing strategic direction and leadership of high-level divisional and university-wide committees.
Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Success and Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students serves as the administrative leader of the Office of the Dean of Students and the primary individual responsible for wraparound and intervention services. This position serves as a critical leader in the Dean of Students office and has responsibility for non-clinical case management, community engagement, and support of institutional safety, health, and well-being initiatives in conjunction with the Dean of Students portfolio. As a member of the Division’s Leadership team, the Associate Dean of Students advances the University’s learning mission, providing leadership for the services and programs in their scope to foster student development, engagement, and well-being for the student body. The Associate Dean works to ensure that strategic initiatives, goals, and objectives align with and contribute to division and university goals.
Job Duties
Supervision (30%)
+ Directly supervise an Assistant Dean of Students for Compassion, Advocacy, Resources, and Education ( CARE ) program, Student Development Specialist III for Special Populations and Basic Needs, and Attorney for Students, and an Administrative Assistant.
+ Indirectly supervise and lead a team of two Case Managers, MSW and Student Affairs Interns, and two Administrative Assistants
+ Provide supervision, support, and guidance for the Attorney for Students office.
+ Train and develop staff members to ensure proper knowledge, skills, and abilities in current case management practices.
Basic Needs Infrastructure (20%)
+ Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures within the unit to ensure efficient operation and adherence to university standards.
+ Manage the University’s student of concern program including non-clinical case management, referral structures, and reporting mechanisms.
+ Serve as the Ombudsperson for students through non-clinical case management.
+ Serve as a member of the behavioral intervention structure at multiple levels.
Community Relations (15%)
+ Oversee critical incident response for the Dean of Students Office for students of concern.
+ Develop and implement protocols related to student deaths, including liaising with appropriate offices and services and the execution of the annual memorial event.
+ Develop and oversee the Critical Incident Liaison Program.
+ Oversee the University’s Interfaith Alliance serving as a liaison with the local community of faith.
Special Population Support (15%)
+ Oversee support resources for special populations of students including Foster Care Alumni Support ( FACES ), Veteran Students, Parenting Students, and Non-traditional students.
+ Advise the Non-Traditional Student Organization.
+ Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and reporting requirements related to special population support.
Administration (15%)
+ Oversee the Dean of Students Office including scheduling, budget management of approximately $1M annually, space allocation, and availability of services.
+ Manage inquiries directed to the Dean of Students Office from students, parents, faculty, staff and other constituents.
Departmental Leadership (5%)
+ Serve as a member of the leadership team in the Division of Student Success and work to fulfill the mission and long-range goals of the division and university through the services and programs of the department.
+ Assist in the continuous development of staff members and maximization of existing staff talents and skills.
+ Serve on or chair university and division committees, teams, or task forces.
+ Coordinates special projects and other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Student Success and Dean of Students or designee.
