+ Master’s degree or other advanced degree related to student success in higher education.
+ Six years of progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in student conduct, including but not limited to individual, student organization, and hazing.
+ Experience supervising full-time staff.
+ Effectively communicate through both verbal and written communication including public speaking.
+ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
+ Experience with case management software.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Terminal degree with preference for individuals in higher education or student development, or other relevant degrees.
+ Seven years progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in student conduct, including but not limited to individual, student organization, and hazing.
+ Demonstrated experience in interpreting case law, legal documents, and policies related to higher education, student conduct, and federal, state, and local laws.
+ Proven experience as a leader in area(s) related to case management, student conduct (individual, student organization, and hazing), student affairs and/or student success.
+ Experience building successful teams including supervision, program development, and evaluation.
+ Experience providing strategic direction and leadership of high-level divisional and university-wide committees.
+ Experience with case management software such as Maxient, Symplicity Advocate, and/or Guardian.
Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Success and Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students for Student Conduct and Community Standards within the Office of the Dean of Students serves as a critical leader in the Dean of Students office. This position has a primary responsibility for non-academic conduct, community standards, behavioral intervention, and support of institutional health and well-being initiatives in conjunction with the Dean of Students portfolio. The Associate Dean of Students supports the advancement of the University’s learning mission, providing leadership for the services and programs in their scope to foster student development, engagement, and well-being for the student body. The Associate Dean of Students works to ensure strategic initiatives, goals, and objectives align with and contribute to division and university goals.
Job Duties
Supervision (30%)
+ Directly supervise an Assistant Dean of Students and an Administrative Assistant.
+ Indirectly supervise and lead a team of 2 Conduct Officers and a Specialist.
+ Train and develop staff members to ensure proper knowledge, skills and abilities in current case management practices.
Student Conduct and Community Standards (20%)
+ Oversight of institution-wide, non-academic, student conduct and community standards.
+ Ensure the Code of Student Conduct, and all associated policies, reports, and standard operating procedures are updated regularly.
+ Collaborate with key university departments and campus bodies involved in addressing student behavior, including Housing and Residential Life, University Police Department, and the Honor Code Council.
+ Serve as the primary steward for the student handbook, leading the biennial review and revision process in compliance with university policies.
+ Oversee the publication and distribution of the updated handbook and ensure its accessibility to students, faculty, and staff.
+ Serve as a member of the behavioral intervention structure at multiple levels.
Community Relations (15%)
+ Serve as the primary liaison between Texas State University and the local community on student behavior matters.
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for external legal entities regarding student conduct issues.
+ Ensure strict adherence to federal and state laws and regulations, including Clery, Title IX, FERPA , subpoenas, and expunction orders.
Emergency Response and Assessment (15%)
+ Provide high-level support on issues related to campus safety, student conduct trends, and emergency preparedness.
+ Assist with leading campus-wide student emergency response efforts for the Division of Student Success, including crisis intervention, behavioral threat assessment, and after-hours support protocols.
+ Work in collaboration with University Police Department and Environmental, Health, Safety, Risk, and Emergency Management to respond to emergencies.
Administration (15%)
+ Manage inquiries directed to the Dean of Students Office from students, parents, faculty, staff and other constituents.
+ Maintain accurate case records and monitor the effectiveness of sanctions, providing ongoing support to students involved in the process.
+ Analyze trends in student behavior and develop strategies to mitigate risks to campus safety and well-being.
Departmental Leadership (5%)
+ Assist in the continuous development of staff members and maximization of existing staff talents and skills.
+ Serve on or chair university and division committees, teams, or task forces.
+ Coordinates special projects and other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Student Success and Dean of Students or designee.
