Job Summary
NetApp is pioneering the development of StorageGRID object storage – AWS cloud compatible software powering the exponential growth in AI data lakes. As a Senior Software Engineer in the StorageGRID platform team, you will work alongside a group of talented developers responsible for developing new platforms (appliances), including Operating System, Kernel, Low level software, Networking and System Engineering.
Job Requirements
• Strong oral and written communication skills are required
• Ability to work collaboratively with other engineers and have strong influencing and leadership skills
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in software/systems engineering is required, with programming skills in C, C++, Python or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience in data management systems & storage platforms for managing and storing data across various workloads and environments. (Ex: NetApp’s ONTAP, Amazon S3 or similar systems)
• Ability to operate as a technical lead to develop longer-range project plans and schedules to complete complex projects or new product development with a subteam of peers
• Ability to convert vague and undefined requirements into clearly articulated ones
• Works with limited supervision and can operate, drive results and set priorities independently
• Demonstrated experience as a technical mentor to junior engineers in a team
• Must work effectively with staff to senior leadership within the function, across functions and with external parties
Preferred Skills:
• Develop software using C and C++ in LINUX and UNIX environments.
• Apply knowledge of computer architecture, operating systems, file systems, networking, algorithms, and data structures.
• Demonstrate expertise in Linux kernel, scheduling, kernel debugging, and driver integration.
• Possess knowledge of computer hardware and architecture, including processors, memory, motherboards, I/O subsystems, and data structures.
• Knowledge of high availability concepts, including failover mechanisms, redundancy, and load balancing.
• Understand basic BIOS and boot loader concepts, including initialization sequences and firmware interfaces.
• Manage interrupt requests (IRQ), interrupt service routines (ISR), and deferred processing in the kernel.
• Understand storage platforms, including disk arrays, solid-state drives (SSD), and storage virtualization.
Education
IC - Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience.Mgr & Exec - Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience.
Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is 187,000 - 278,300 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off (PTO), various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies.
