The Activities Assistant implements the comprehensive activity program to meet the needs of the long-term residents.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
+ None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Implements the facility monthly activity calendar that is created by the Activity Coordinator
+ Assists in getting residents to scheduled in-house activities
+ Responsible for photo consents and posting resident's pictures
+ Responsible for maintaining resident's photo in Saunders and will assure photo is updated annually
+ Conducts one to one, check-ins, and sensory visits as care planned
+ Provides residents and long-term care staff with leisure activities when asked
+ Works closely with care team to carry out the resident's plan of care
+ Reports suspected or known abuse according to facility policy
+ Participates required department/organizational meetings as directed
+ Documents resident activity participation and keeps records up to date
+ Drives facility van for various resident outings
+ Maintains and cleans equipment and items used for activities
+ Works closely with community members/organizations when they come to the facility
+ Decorates facility for holidays or other events to create a home like environment for the residents
+ Respects all resident rights, especially confidentiality of resident information
+ Assists in maintaining/cleaning facility's bird aviaries
+ Cleans up after each activity that is conducted in facility
+ Participates on facility pet committee
+ Creates and maintains an environment of warmth, cheerfulness, enthusiasm and giving quality of services you would want to receive. Reflects the core values of Glendive Medical Center.
+ Assures that all activities conform to federal, state, and local accreditation and licensing agencies or organizations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
+ Familiarity with basic medical terminology.
+ Enthusiasm to work with physically disabled and chronically ill individuals of all ages.
+ Ability to deal with residents, staff and guests with tact and professionalism.
+ Willingness to work flexible hours.
+ Excellent communication skills both orally and written
+ Time management and meet required deadlines
+ Good organizational skills
+ Proficient with using the computer and software programs such as Microsoft Office
+ Active Listening Skills
+ Good telephone etiquette
+ Flexible and willing to learn and/or assist with implementing new ideas/process
+ Ability to work independently but also an effective team member
Education and Experience:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred
+ Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred, or able to obtain within the first year of employment
Physical Requirements:
+ Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
+ Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
+ Must be able to walk and stand for extended intervals.
+ Must have good hearing and speech ability to communicate with residents and families
+ May be exposed to residents with infectious disease or aggressive agitated residents
