A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
As a Head Group Fitness Instructor, you will have the opportunity to lead the group fitness instructor team and coordinate the group fitness program to meet budge objectives and exceed member expectations. This position will have 10-15 hours of clerical duties per week, with commissions and hourly pay for personal training and group fitness classes.
The Group Fitness Manager is responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating the performance of group fitness instructors. This role develops, organizes, and implements a diverse range of group fitness programs, services, and events while ensuring that the monthly class schedule is current and fully staffed, including arranging for substitutes as needed. The manager oversees the safety, cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the group fitness studio and equipment. They promote group fitness programs and ensure content is updated regularly on the Club website and in newsletters. Effective communication with staff and members is essential, and the manager is expected to manage the group fitness email inbox, respond to all inquiries, and return phone calls within one business day.
They ensure that charges related to group fitness are processed accurately and that instructors' hours are reported correctly and on time. The manager also generates and maintains various reports related to demographics, activity, and sales. As the primary point of contact for group fitness, they remain accessible to members and ensure a high level of customer service. Additionally, they maintain a nationally recognized group fitness certification and ensure instructors meet continuing education and credentialing requirements. The role includes planning and leading quarterly staff meetings and weekly engagement meetings, attending management meetings, and teaching up to six group fitness classes per week. The Group Fitness Manager assists with Manager On Duty responsibilities and supports the Fitness and Wellness Programs Coordinator in implementing Club policies, goals, and departmental standards, while also promoting Cherokee culture. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
+ Nationally recognized certification in Group Exercise Instruction, i.e. ACSM, AFAA or ACE.
+ Specialty certifications, i.e. Yoga, Pilates, Spin, umba, Aqua Fitness.
+ Minium 3 years of experience managing/coordinating group fitness programs.
+ Minimum 3 years of class instruction experience.
WORK SCHEDULE
The schedule for this part-time position varies. We do need our Group Fitness Instructors to be able to work flexible hours.
