The **Director of Teacher Education** in the School of Educational Studies provides critical work for teacher education processes and program leadership. This position facilitates and completes all mandated state, federal, and UW data reporting for SES teacher and principal preparation programs, leads the School of Educational Studies’ teacher certification programs, and liaises with school district, community, and state partners central to teacher certification processes.
The Director of Teacher Education supports certification processes to current/former SES students as well as provides front-facing support with our school district community partners (teachers and HR personnel). All data reporting and policy compliance are facilitated by this role with our PESB, WACTE, and OSPI colleagues. This role also ensures that our teacher education programs are best meeting the needs of our diverse teacher education candidates in terms of program structure, curriculum, and community partnerships.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Oversee and coordinate teacher certification programs
+ Liaise between and support alignment of teaching certification programs
+ Field instruction.
+ Program/coursework scope and sequence.
+ Tools and instruments (e.g., lesson planning templates).
+ Student support for successful program completion.
+ Collaborate with academic services staff on the intersection of student teacher placements and academic/university policies.
+ Coordinate field instructor (FI) recruitment and professional development (including professional learning about ambitious anti-racist and equity teaching).
+ Coordinate cooperating teacher (CT) recruitment and professional development (including professional learning around ambitious anti-racist and equity teaching).
+ Collaborate with faculty instructor of the professional practice student teaching seminars.
+ Collect and share data about teacher candidate (TC) learning and coordinate iterative program design in response to findings.
+ Collaborate with academic services staff to support recruitment, admissions, retention, certification, and induction of teacher certification students.
+ Coordinate all aspects of regional district partnerships related to teacher certification.
+ Onboard current and new district partners into a formalized MOU process according to SES long-term goals.
+ Coordinate communication, meetings, and school-based visits with district-based administration to develop a shared vision for mutually beneficial partnership efforts.
+ Help SES rebuild its professional development school (PDS) model as a future practice.School Data Administrator and Certification Specialist
+ Main point of contact for all certification processes for current and former Elementary Education and Secondary students for the School of Educational Studies.
+ Recommend completing teacher and principal/administrator candidates for certification at the completion of their programs.
+ Complete all mandated state, federal, and UW data reporting on teacher and principal preparation programs. Partner with academic advisors and academic services staff to communicate requirements for the input of undergraduate and post-bacculaureate admissions data as well as LEDE & ECSEL admissions and completion data.
+ Serve as liaison to PESB, OSPI, and other organizations with regards to questions about data reporting, policy compliance, and other regulatory matters.
+ Stay current and up to date on the OSPI e-cert system and collaborate with the Academic Services team to coordinate teacher and principal certification endorsement recommendations.
+ Train new staff in eCert policies and procedures.
+ Navigate and resolve complex certification issues as they interface with state and University policies.
+ Stay abreast of current happenings at the state and federal level as they may impact certification programs. Actively communicate policy changes to SES faculty and staff; participate and/or lead discussions on how state and federal changes impact SES programs and policy.
+ Build and maintain a professional network of colleagues to maintain the pulse of trends in teacher certification programs in the region and state.
+ Represent SES at meetings hosted by WACTE, OSPI, and PESB.
+ Coordinate Teacher Certification PEAB meetings quarterly to report on data, policy changes, etc.
+ Identify job placement data on most recently completed teacher certification cohorts and, upon request, report on graduating student employment data.
+ Assist both current students and alumni as it pertains to interstate reciprocity for teacher licensure.Other Responsibilities
+ Participate and provide instructional support to student teaching seminars.
+ Attend and participate in regular university and school staff meetings and committees, work groups, and major planning meetings, as needed.
+ Serve on work groups and other project teams at the school, state, or national level as needed and appropriate.
+ Coordinates placement of student teachers **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Master’s degree in education or related subject and at least three years’ experience in teacher education or K-12 teaching. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds, with a strong commitment to providing excellent student services in a multicultural environment.
+ Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
+ Proficiency in standard office software. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ PhD or EdD in teacher education or related educational field.
+ Familiarity with state level teacher certification processes.
+ Experience as a credentialed K-12 teacher.
+ Understanding of research-based practices.
+ Successful experiences in leading initiatives.
+ Meeting facilitation, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict management.
