The role you’ll contribute:
The Surgical Technician Coordinator functions in the role of team facilitator and specialty coordinator to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of care to surgical patients. This position directs other health care team members in the unit environment and assists with training, orientation, and education of new personnel. The Coordinator participates in performance improvement activities and maintains knowledge of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and other regulatory standards. This position manages processing and oversight of all equipment, meeting with physicians to determine equipment needs and developing vendor relationships and is responsible for participating in cost-case analysis and supply savings initiatives. The Coordinator functions as a member of the surgical team, as a scrub person by providing care to surgical patients. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
+ Facilitates all aspects of team readiness for surgical procedures including room set up, instrumentation, equipment and supplies. Collaborates with pre-op nurses and anesthesia team to ensure patient readiness. Assists team with safe and appropriate operating room turnover times. Directs ancillary personnel participating in room turnover. Monitors first case start and turnover times to ensure goals are met. Makes rounds during the shift to ensure efficient progress of cases in their specialty. Works with PACU leadership to ensure space availability and maintain throughput. Communicates with senior leadership if O.R. is put on hold for PACU bed availability.
+ Innovative in maintaining high standards and quality in the facilitation of cost savings and containment. Proactively works with staff on waste avoidance when opening for procedures. Manages and maintains all Doctor Preference Cards for the specialty to ensure accuracy and completeness. Assesses capital purchase needs for the specialty and works with the leadership team to prioritize purchases. Communicates with physicians and surgery team members regarding product requests. Is involved in unit-department based budgeting and support of the budget. Maintains staffing and scheduling, and resource utilization within budgeted targets for the unit.
+ Oversees other healthcare team members in the surgical environment. Utilizes knowledge base to assist with orientation, training, and the education of new personnel. Participates in interviewing and makes recommendations for hiring. Participates with Nurse Manager on performance appraisals. Monitors performance of the staff and reports findings to the nurse manager or takes corrective action for improvement as appropriate. Mentors and coaches employees on a continual basis in order to ensure competency in care delivery. Develops staff preceptors and mentors.
+ Acts as a liaison between departments regarding orders, instrumentation, scheduling and various surgical patient care issues. Addresses customer complaints and works with leadership team to ensure conflict resolution.
+ Demonstrates the ability to perform in the role of surgical scrub by anticipating the needs of the surgeon and keeping the circulating nurse informed of any needs throughout a procedure. Ensures that all supplies, equipment, and medications are assembled prior to the procedure
+ Promotes a safe environment, demonstrates appropriate action in emergency situations. Demonstrates awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors, and employees. Identifies and reports environmental concerns to the management team. Ensures adherence to appropriate regulatory standards and FH policies and procedures.
+ Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, and performs hand washing according to policy. Strictly adheres to all infection control practices and diligently monitors aseptic technique of the entire surgical team. Takes immediate corrective action for breaks in technique.
+ Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Ensures that practice changes, as a result of performance improvement activities, are implemented. Adheres to all policies and procedures.
+ Supports the customer and employee satisfaction activities of the organization. Maintains good relationships with physicians, management, other departments and staff. Investigates and responds to complaints in a timely manner.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed** **:
Minimum Requirements:
+ Graduate from school of Surgical Technology, LPN program, RN program or related military training program
+ 2 years of experience in the clinical setting related to area of specialty
+ CST - Certified Surgical Technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
+ BCLS - Basic Life Support
+ Certified Operating Room Technician (CORT) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Preferred:
+ 3 years’ experience in a healthcare leadership/management role
+ Experience in current performance improvement frameworks and methodologies
