    Responsibilities*

    Responsibilities could include:

    + Provide routine instructions to patients regarding procedures, treatments, and follow-up care instructions as delegated by Licensed clinicians

    + Participate in the pre-procedure time out process.

    + Assist with and sometimes chaperone complex procedures such as flexible sigmoidoscopy, biopsy, cystoscopy, fluoroscopy, ultrasounds, rectal ultrasounds, thyroid aspirations, and esophageal dilations.

    + Management of instrumentation for procedures.

    + Assist with dressing changes for trauma burn and wound care patients.

    + Administer medications/immunizations, injections as directed

    + May complete general administrative duties as assigned including; Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Disability and Return to Work forms, Electronic Medical Record in-basket messages, etc.

    + Complete other clinical and non-clinical duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications*

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program **OR** an equivalent combination of patient care related education and patient care experience

    + 0-1 years of patient care experience for an Assistant level

    + 1-3 years of patient care experience for an Associate level

    + Knowledge of basic Medical Terminology

    + Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patient.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or (RMA).

    + Experience working within a large complex health care setting.

    + Familiarity with electronic medical records system.

    + Experience working in a surgical or procedural outpatient or inpatient setting.

     

    Work Schedule

     

    Full Time hours, 40 hours per week, weekday schedule will vary depending on location/clinic.

     

    May be occasional weekends.

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
