Overview
This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. This position involves assisting the Director of Pastoral Care and works within the Department of Pastoral Care to meet the spiritual, emotional, and psychological needs of patients, families, and staff, and to fulfill the mission of the institution.
In addition, this position assists the Director of Pastoral Care with providing pastoral services to patients, staff, and patients' families, including spiritual counseling, guidance, and comfort and provides patient visitation on assigned floors; assists in planning, assessment, and development of department services for short and long-range planning.
This Staff Chaplain position provides counseling to the patients, families and employees through routine and/or referral visitation, crisis and bereavement counseling, patient education as well as worship services to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of the patients/families/employees. This position is under the general direction of the Director of Pastoral Care during business hours, 8a-5p, Monday through Friday and available 24/7. Incumbent is subject to overtime and callback as required by BMH-DeSoto.
Principle Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
• Provides pastoral care through routine and/or referral visitation to meet the spiritual/emotional needs of patients/families and/or employees.
• Provides crisis and bereavement counseling during time of death, “Code Blue” situations and Emergency Room calls using crisis management skills and community resources to support family members in times of crisis/grief.
• Provides chapel services within the hospital on a rotation basis through development of worship materials to solicit patient/employee participation and family involvement to provide comfort and spiritual strength.
• Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.
Requirements:
Education:
• Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
• Master of Divinity from an accredited institution
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) :
Completion of a minimum of 4 Units (1600 hours) of a CPE is a requirement.
Credentials:
Denominational ordination through the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and eligible for endorsement through the North American Mission Board (NAMB)
Experience:
A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in pastoral care or chaplaincy is preferred.
