    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Title: ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL

     

    Start Date: July 1, 2025

    Job Description:

    This is a vital leadership position in the VCSD. The successful candidate will provide leadership and direction to faculty, support staff, students, and parents in the total education process. The individual filling this position will be expected to provide the leadership and expertise required to assure that the potential of each child is maximized during the critical elementary years of their educational growth and development. The continuation of professional development is expected for professional growth and to model and facilitate such growth in others.

    Performance Responsibilities:

    Curriculum and Instruction

    + Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school which supports the emotional, physical and intellectual well-being of Primary School students.

    + Takes a leadership role in developing, monitoring and evaluating instructional programs by initiating and implementing programs to meet specific needs of the school in concert with the District Curriculum Council.

    + Participates in developing recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instructional programs.

    + Participates in supervising all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school’s curriculum.

    + Administers student testing programs within the school as applicable.

    Staff and Student Supervision

    + Implements and observes all Board policies and regulations by staff and students.

    + Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative and non-professional personnel attached to the school.

    + Assists in the evaluation of all staff members regarding their individual performance.

    + Serves as ex officio member of all committees and councils with his/her school.

    + Assumes responsibility for administration and supervision of curricular areas and/or special programs and staff within the building projects, remedial instruction, gifted/talented, special education, etc., in conjunction with district policies and procedures as applicable.

    + Helps establish guides for proper student conduct maintaining high standards and responds according to due process to the rights of students.

    + Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on student health, performance and attendance.

    + Maintains Data Security as applicable.

    + Maintains confidentiality with staff, student, and family information.

    Fiscal Management

    + Prepares and submits the school’s budgetary requests, and monitors the expenditures of funds, based on program needs.

    + Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities.

    Building/Department Management

    + Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business, scheduling classes within the established guidelines to meet student needs.

    + Supervises the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.

    + Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary

    + Plans and supervises fire drills and filing required reports

    + Oversee field trip arrangements with the transportation supervisor.

    Public Relations

    + Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.

    + Maintains active relationships with students and parents.

    + Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.

    + Responds to requests for information.

    + Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions.

    Professional Growth

    + Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development

    + Accepts advice, direction and guidance from and seeks to cooperatively implement suggestions.

    District Level Administrative Duties

    + Works collaboratively with various members of the central administrative staff on areas of more than in-school import, such as transportation and special education services.

    + Participates in administrative meetings, Board meetings and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.

    + Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed to by the superintendent or their designee.

    + Stays informed about school’s activities and concerns, as well as events.

    + Assumes other such duties as may be deemed necessary by the Superintendent or their designee.

    Qualifications :

    + Hold New York State School Administrative Certification as a School Building Leader (SBL) or School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS).

    + Significant elementary level experience along with a strong literacy and numeracy background is preferred

    + Strong understanding of child development and instructional programming

    + Prior administrative experience is required along with evidence of shifting teacher instructional practice

    + Hold high and clear expectations for students, staff, and self.

    + Able to work effectively with a variety of staff and community groups.

    + Possess a management style which fosters a team approach

    + Strong knowledge of curriculum and the instructional supervision process.

     

    Immediate Supervisor: Superintendent of Schools

    Evaluation:

    Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools.

     

    Salary :Minimum starting salary $105,000 (negotiable based on experience) and competitive benefits package as per the Victor Administrators and Supervisors Association agreement. The VASA contract can be found on the Victor Central School District website under the Human Resources tab.
