    SENIOR RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, WEISSBOURD, Biology - The Weissbourd Lab, to take charge of jellyfish culture in a new animal facility focused on generating genetically modified jellyfish strains for neuroscience research; be responsible for maintaining, feeding, breeding, and raising jellyfish; be responsible for culturing brine shrimp and rotifers as food sources, cleaning parts, care and maintenance of the aquatic systems, ensuring water quality, etc., conducting research to optimize the culture systems to maintain consistent healthy growing conditions for all stages of the Clytia life cycle, and possibly leading in the publication of new aquaculture techniques; assist with lab management activities, including onboarding and training new members, reagent maintenance, purchasing equipment and supplies, preparing lab for EHS inspections ensuring safety standards and procedures are followed; and generate new transgenic jellyfish strains by egg microinjection and be highly integrated into other aspects of the laboratory’s research endeavor.

    Job Requirements

    REQUIRED: High school diploma and experience with laboratory animal care (ideally with marine organisms); meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to problem-solve, optimize, update, and document operating procedures; excellent communication skills and a positive, collaborative mindset; and flexibility to adapt to changing laboratory needs and schedules. PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree and/or professional training in aquaculture. Job #24931-4

     

    Lifting, moving, and carrying items throughout the lab and animal facility required.

     

    Occasional weekend hours may be required.
