Position Description
At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for an Inventory Control & Returns Manager to join the Logistics Distribution Center in Fort Mill, SC. The Inventory Control & Returns Manager is responsible for overseeing inventory control operations and managing return processes within the distribution center. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate inventory levels to meet organizational targets and ensures timely processing of returns to support customer satisfaction. By actively leading inventory audit programs, conducting root cause analyses, and monitoring performance metrics, this leader will evaluate impacts on LIFR and drive ongoing improvements in both operational efficiency and the customer experience.
Main Job Duties
Inventory
+ Oversees inventory flow, processes, and accuracy within the distribution center, with a target of achieving and maintaining 98%+ inventory accuracy.
+ Analyzes inventory data to support informed decision-making, drive continuous improvement, and optimize overall inventory performance.
+ Leads the cycle count program and inventory audit processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
+ Owns the RCCA program to identify inventory discrepancies and implement effective preventative measures.
+ Partners with inbound and outbound operations teams to minimize inventory variances and ensure alignment across functions.
+ Collaborates with business unit stakeholders—including finance, product management, a nd purchasing—to support and advance inventory-related initiatives.
+ Act as the key point of contact between the warehouse and finance teams, ensuring alignment on inventory valuation, reporting, and reconciliation.
+ Serve as primary lead for internal and external auditors during inventory audits, ensuring accurate representation of inventory records and procedures.
Returns
+ Oversee the accurate and timely processing of all returns, exchanges, and credits in alignment with company policies and procedures.
+ Develop, implement, and monitor key functions related to returned merchandise, ensuring all transactions are completed with precision, timeliness, and efficiency.
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated return inquiries and customer complaints, ensuring swift and satisfactory resolutions.
+ Maintain inventory accuracy by tracking returned items and ensuring system records are promptly and correctly updated.
+ Manage the organization of returned goods, ensuring proper categorization, storage, and labeling for efficient restocking, refurbishment, or disposal.
+ Generate and maintain detailed reports on return metrics, including return volume, reason codes, and processing turnaround times.
+ Analyze return trends and data to identify root causes and drive process improvements.
+ Collaborate with Customer Service to develop proactive strategies that reduce return r ates and enhance the overall returns experience.
+ Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless returns operations across departments.
+ Communicate with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturers to resolve issues related to defective or non-sellable returns, negotiate return procedures, and optimize outcomes.
+ Lead and coordinate special projects in partnership with various business units to support continuous improvement in returns management.
Leadership
+ Directly manage hourly team members responsible for inventory control and RMA processes, ensuring effective day-to-day operations.
+ Promote and reinforce a “safety-first” culture through proactive training, awareness initiatives, and clear accountability.
+ Monitor individual and team performance, providing regular coaching, training, and development to cultivate a high-performing and adaptable workforce.
+ Conduct performance evaluations and play a key role in hiring, onboarding, and retaining top talent.
+ Partner with Human Resources on performance management and employee relations matters, administering corrective actions as necessary in accordance with company policy.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field—preferably with a focus on inventory optimization, project management, or transportation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ 3–5 years of experience in a distribution or manufacturing environment, with a strong background in Inventory Control and Logistics leadership.
+ Proven experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or similar frameworks.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
+ Strong understanding of safety standards and material handling equipment (MHE) operations.
+ Proven leadership skills with experience in supervising, mentoring, and developing highperforming teams.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact across all levels of the organization.
+ Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously using sound judgment and initiative.
+ Successful track record of managing diverse functional areas in a fast-paced, highvolume distribution or logistics environment.
+ Highly collaborative with a team-oriented mindset; fosters open communication and supports a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
+ Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (e.g., data analysis, reporting, and automation).
+ Knowledge and hands-on experience with logistics and distribution systems, including Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms; experience with PKMS and SAP preferred.
