The U.S. Consumer Services & Digital Technology Team brings together foundational strategic technology capabilities in digital experience engineering (Mobile and Web), AI/ML, marketing technology, enterprise communications, travel and lifestyle, and automation, grounded in our data technology model that prioritizes data governance. It employs a ground-breaking focus with development responsibilities for customer-facing capabilities that deepen and expand digital engagement, as well as core technical capabilities that cut across business lines and customer segments.
The Lounge Services team is part of Amex's Membership Services team. We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Engineering Manager to join our growing team. The Senior Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading multiple engineering teams, overseeing the design, development, and implementation of complex technical projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software or hardware engineering, combined with extensive experience in managing and mentoring engineering teams. This role requires a strategic thinker who can align engineering efforts with business goals, drive continuous improvement, and foster a collaborative and innovative culture.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and scale engineering teams focused on application development and API design within a fast-paced fintech environment.
* Own system architecture and design decisions, ensuring scalable and secure services that meet financial industry standards.
* Drive the development of APIs that serve internal and external consumers, including banks, payment providers, and third-party platforms.
* Collaborate closely with Product, Compliance, Security, and DevOps to deliver high-quality applications.
* Review and approve architectural designs, code, and technical solutions.
* Oversee coding standards, testing, CI/CD processes, and deployment strategies aligned with regulatory and compliance requirements.
* Champion best practices in Node.js, microservices, and event-driven architecture using technologies like TypeScript, Express, NestJS, and message queues.
* Represent the engineering department in cross-functional meetings and contribute to company-wide decision-making.
* Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, promoting collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
* Provide regular feedback, performance reviews, and career development opportunities for team members.
Minimum Qualification :
* Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other engineering disciplines.
* 3 Years Experience being a people leader, coaching, mentoring and guiding for highly talented technical teams.
* 7 years of experience in programming languages like JavaScript/Typescript (Node.js), Golang, Java etc.
* Proven experience hiring, retaining, and leading high-caliber engineering talent.
* Experience building customer-facing products with performing, availability and high scalability and bringing in new technologies based on current industry standards.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to cater to a diverse audience: executive collaborator, customer, partner, engineering.
* Experience leading and building software engineering teams designing and building efficient software products in a fast-paced, sophisticated and dynamic software development environment.
* Hands-on experience architecting and building modern REST APIs.
* Commitment to drive a culture of accountability and ownership to empower teams and motivate change.
* Experience leading individual contributors and providing career direction, coaching, and building development plans.
* Experience working in a distributed team model and collaborating with remote team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master’s degree in computer science or related field.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipeline.
* Knowledge of microservices architecture.
* Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
* Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub profile.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
