    Job Overview

     

    Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director, the Chief Technologist will lead and manage the Cardiac Electrophysiology Technologists and associated staff. This role ensures the team’s competence in various electrophysiology procedures and equipment usage, provides technical assistance during procedures, and oversees daily operations related to sterile procedures, hemodynamic monitoring, billing, and equipment management. The Chief Technologist will ensure that all activities are performed in accordance with professional standards, regulatory guidelines, and department protocols, with a focus on patient safety.

    Key Responsibilities

    Team Leadership & Coordination:

    + Coordinate and monitor the activities of technical staff, distributing work and providing training, guidance, and technical assistance.

    + Ensure staff are equipped with the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively and efficiently.

    + Recommend optimal staff scheduling and utilization to ensure adequate technical coverage for both procedures and administrative functions.

    Clinical & Technical Support:

    + Provide technical assistance to physicians during electrophysiology procedures, including ablations (PFA, Cryo, RF, VT), left atrial appendage closures, pacemaker and ICD implants, cardioversions, and laser lead extractions.

    + Perform and assist in complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including the use of hemodynamic monitoring, pacing, and mapping systems.

    + Ensure proper patient preparation, assist with sterile procedures, and ensure patient safety throughout the procedure.

    + Administer emergency therapeutic interventions, including CPR, defibrillation, and temporary pacemaker insertion, in the event of a cardiac or respiratory emergency.

    Equipment & Procedure Management:

    + Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate electrophysiology equipment, ensuring functionality and safety.

    + Perform routine preventive maintenance and ensure proper handling and storage of equipment.

    + Analyze electrocardiographic data using digital computer analysis systems.

    Patient & Procedure Documentation:

    + Prepare and maintain all relevant procedure-related documentation and ensure compliance with billing and inventory management procedures.

    Training & Quality Assurance:

    + Assist in the training and orientation of new department staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to perform their duties.

    + Participate in clinical research trials and quality assurance initiatives related to the electrophysiology lab.

    + Contribute to departmental quality control and regulatory requirements

    Operational Oversight:

    + Oversee the day-to-day operations of the EP lab, ensuring compliance with sterile technique protocols, equipment usage, and patient safety standards.

    + Manage procedural billing and equipment inventory.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in a clinical field or an Associate’s degree from an accredited Radiologic Technologist program with Radiology Technologist (RT) Certification.

    + Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification.

    + A minimum of 5 years of experience as a cardiac electrophysiology technologist.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification OR agree to obtain within 1 year of hire

    Physical Requirements

    + Work in semi-restricted and restricted environments such as the operating room and perioperative support areas.

    + Exposure to hazardous chemicals, blood, bodily fluids, radiation, lasers, and extreme environmental conditions.

    + Requires wearing protective lead aprons for extended periods.

    + Frequent lifting, positioning of patients, and handling of medical materials and equipment.

    Skills & Abilities

    + Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.

    + Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to patient safety.

    + In-depth knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology procedures, and proficiency in electrophysiology equipment operation.

    + Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on collaboration and team effectiveness.
