Description
The Technical Writer II serves a key role in the Emory Digital Academy by building upon the foundational responsibilities of the Technical Writer I position. This role involves advanced technical research, content creation, and project management, with a focus on delivering visually engaging, accessible, and effective documentation and instructional materials. The Technical Writer II partners closely with internal teams and end users to continuously improve the quality and usability of training content delivered across multiple platforms and modalities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Research:
+ Gain moderate levels of subject matter expertise in documented tools and technologies to better translate technical content.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for other writers and contributors on specific content areas.
Content Creation:
+ Produce high-quality documentation including screenshots, flowcharts, and graphics.
+ Apply media design strategies to ensure that instructional content is visually appealing and effectively communicated.
+ Incorporate innovative formats and interactive modalities to enhance user engagement.
Content Management:
+ Deliver content across multiple platforms using various tools and technologies.
+ Maintain an ongoing feedback loop program to gather user input and make continuous improvements to documentation.
Project Management:
+ Manage training and documentation projects to ensure successful implementation aligned with business goals and timelines.
+ Quality Standards:
+ Maintain and support the revision of documentation quality standards. Participate in content peer reviews, workgroups, and editorial quality processes.
+ Use data from various sources to influence decisions on documentation improvements and strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in a related field
+ 5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer or similar role involving creation of instructional guides, tip sheets, and user-focused documentation.
+ Skills & Tools Strong technical research and analytical skills.
+ Advanced writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and content development tools such as Vyond, Canva, SharePoint, and Figma.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables.
+ Strong visual and instructional design sensibility.
