A leading Boston-based college is seeking an experienced Information Security Analyst for a 7-month onsite contract. The analyst will play a critical role in safeguarding the institution’s digital assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and responding to cybersecurity incidents. This is a hands-on role within a collaborative IT security team, ideal for a contractor with higher education or regulated industry experience.
+ Monitor, analyze, and respond to security events and alerts from SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, firewalls, and vulnerability scanners to identify and mitigate threats to university assets
+ Conduct real-time analysis of security alerts, escalate incidents as appropriate, and coordinate incident response activities
+ Support internal and external audits, compliance activities (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST 800-171, CIS), and risk assessments related to information security and data privacy
+ Assist with the maintenance, development, and enforcement of information security policies, standards, and operating procedures, ensuring alignment with institutional and regulatory requirements
+ Perform IT risk assessments for internal systems and third-party vendors, identifying and remediating vulnerabilities
+ Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices; proactively recommend improvements to strengthen the college’s security posture
+ Manage and deliver security awareness training to staff, faculty, and students as needed
+ Participate in ongoing projects and initiatives as directed by IT leadership, including support for security-related certifications or re-certification processes
+ Document security incidents, investigation steps, and remediation actions; contribute to metrics and reporting for senior management
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
+ Minimum 4 years of professional experience in information security analysis, preferably in higher education or a regulated environment
+ Strong knowledge of security frameworks and standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, CIS, SOC)
+ Experience with security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, vulnerability scanners, and firewalls
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze, triage, and respond to security incidents in a fast-paced environment
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
+ Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
+ Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the contract.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Professional certifications such as CompTIA Security+, SSCP, CISSP, or similar
+ Experience supporting audits or compliance initiatives in higher education.
+ Familiarity with cloud security, data privacy regulations (FERPA, GDPR), and risk management processes.
Work Environment
+ Onsite role at the Boston campus; must be available to work standard business hours and participate in after-hours incident response as needed.
+ Collaborative IT team environment with opportunities to contribute to process improvements and institutional security strategy.
Compensation
+ Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience and market rates for Boston-area contractors.
