Idaho Transportation Department is hiring aTechnical Engineer II, located in District 3 - Boise, Idaho.
The incumbent in this position will play a pivotal role in supporting an in-house District design team to successfully develop and design large transportation projects within the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program. As a technical expert, the incumbent will perform design reviews on both District and consultant-designed projects, offering guidance on complex design issues and mentoring junior engineers (EITs) and design technicians. Additionally, the incumbent will provide on-the-job training in OpenRoads Designer software and foster the development of design staff.
District 3 is responsible for a significant portion of the statewide programs and will have a statewide influence. The role will also include supporting other Districts as a technical design SME and assisting the highways leadership team with special project assignments.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
+ Consult on complex transportation designs and support OpenRoads Designer usage
+ Develop plans, specifications, and estimates for highway and bridge projects
+ Manage projects through their lifecycle, ensuring compliance with laws and best practices
+ Perform alternatives analysis, risk mitigation, and establish project baselines for cost and timelines
+ Conduct stakeholder outreach and present at public meetings
+ Mentor junior engineers and design technicians in design processes and OpenRoads Designer
+ Provide SME coaching and guidance to District and statewide staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure:
+ Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE), or eligibility for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12
+ Valid Driver’s license
Experience:
+ Coordinating with state and local government operations in one of the specific engineering specialties described below
+ Evaluating engineering projects and making decisions relative to their merit
+ Writing engineering reports and related correspondence
+ Reviewing and critiquing engineering analyses
+ Making oral presentations to groups, relative to the merits of engineering applications

+ Background negotiating or mediating disputes between parties with conflicting goals and objectives.
