• System Engineer

    Description

    We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented System Engineer with hands-on experience in managing and optimizing cloud and virtualized environments, specifically on Microsoft Azure and VMware platforms, in the Houston area. As a key member of the IT infrastructure team, the System Engineer will support, design, and maintain enterprise systems while providing technical expertise in cloud computing, virtualization, networking, and disaster recovery solutions.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Azure Administration:

    + Design, deploy, and manage Azure-based solutions, including virtual networks, virtual machines (VMs), storage accounts, and hybrid cloud environments.

    + Support Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions and actively maintain server backups and disaster recovery environments.

    + Manage security groups, MFA configurations, and permissions within Azure Entra ID (formerly Azure AD).

    + Optimize Azure resources for cost efficiency and performance.

    + VMware Virtualization:

    + Configure and manage VMware ESXi hosts and create, deploy, and maintain virtual machines (VMs).

    + Perform routine VM backups and restoration to support business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

    + Monitor and troubleshoot virtualization environments to ensure reliability and scalability.

    + Server and System Maintenance:

    + Administer Windows and Linux-based server environments for enterprise-level application hosting.

    + Maintain SSL certificates across platforms and applications while ensuring compliance with security standards.

    + Networking & Security:

    + Support and troubleshoot VPN connectivity and network-connected devices for seamless user experience.

    + Enhance organizational security by implementing role-based access controls (RBAC), policies, and system monitoring tools.

    + Technical Support:

    + Provide Tier 2 technical support for escalated IT tickets.

    + Diagnose software and hardware issues, offering solutions and collaborating with stakeholders to resolve problems effectively.

    + IT Project Coordination:

    + Collaborate with cross-functional teams on IT projects, cloud migrations, and infrastructure upgrades.

    + Utilize tools such as Fresh Service or Monday.com for IT ticket and project management.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

    + 5+ years of experience in system engineering and administration, including Azure and VMware.

    + Strong proficiency with Azure Portal, VMware vSphere, ESXi hosts, and virtualization technologies.

    + Hands-on experience managing backups, disaster recovery plans, and hybrid cloud architectures.

    + Knowledge of Windows/Linux systems and networking fundamentals, including VPN and DNS configurations.

    + Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, SSL certificate management, and IT security best practices.

    + Effective troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with a detail-oriented approach to resolving complex issues.

     

    Preferred Skills

     

    + Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell or similar tools.

    + Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines.

    + Certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) are highly desirable.
