Position Summary
CVS Health is recruiting for an Executive Director, Data Architecture. The PS Solution Engineering and Automation organization is currently engaged in strategic initiatives that are multi-year programs solving complex problems that involves solving for financial leakage to the tune of $560M. Today, we have a gap in the data foundation within PS that connects our ecosystem together across different business units. To address this gap and unlock the insights from the data via application of AI/ML will require solid experience and expertise in developing data solutions including data pipelines that need to be architected and designed. The skill sets needed for this role are hard to find in the industry as it spans the gamut of data engineering, data platforms in the cloud as well as defining data governance. This role will lead a team of data architects that will evolve and grow as the technology evolves and we solve complex problems.
You will make an impact by:
Lead a dynamic team that builds and implements data products within the applications serving the Pharmacy Services line of business.
Play a critical role in shaping the direction of our data systems, ensuring they align with business goals, driving innovation through data-driven insights, and establishing a single source of truth for various data domains.
Collaborate with various leaders (VP, SVP) across DDAT and the business to design, implement, maintain and govern robust data architecture strategy that support our growing needs.
Required Qualifications
• 15+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, or related roles, with at least 5 years in a Principal position.
• Best-in-class technical subject matter expertise and domain knowledge.
• Extensive knowledge of data modeling, data governance, database design, data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, and data technologies (e.g., Spark, relational and NoSQL databases).
• Proficiency with data architecture tools and platforms (e.g., ERwin, Kafka, Redis) and familiarity with cloud data services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Ability to establish a single source of truth for various data domains within PBM to ensure the availability of clean, accurate, and timely data to PBM operational systems.
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset, capable of translating business needs into effective data solutions.
• Ability to collaborate with DDAT, Business, Operations, and Security to deliver solutions.
• Experience in enterprise development tools and methodologies (XP, Agile), including DevSecOps and DataOps.
• Cradle-to-Grave Solution Leadership: Ultimate accountability and oversight for driving solutions for key strategic initiatives from inception to completion for a given domain, providing leadership and oversight to engineers and application architects who are intimately familiar with the application architectures within their specific domain.
• Provide technology leadership, solution oversight, and guidance to ensure that the solution adheres to Pharmacy Services Architecture Guiding Principles and standards while maximizing the reuse of technology and data assets.
• Buy vs. Build Analysis: In-depth experience in performing Buy vs. Build analysis based on qualitative and quantitative assessments across available options to provide a final recommendation based on rationale.
• Architecture and Design Reviews: Play a key leadership role in architecture design reviews, identifying gaps and recommending design changes. Actively lead and participate in the architecture community to drive modernization opportunities for the advancement of PBM technology while considering the complexities of our IT landscape.
• Develop Reference Architecture and Implementation: Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to Application Development, Technology Services, Solutions, and Enterprise Architecture to develop/assemble PBM-applicable information reference architectures for PBM data domains.
• Proof of Concept Technology Support: Lead and drive proofs-of-concept and technology deep-dives specific to partner technologies.
• “Roll Up Your Sleeves and Help Clear Technical Roadblocks”: Advise and assist application development teams with technical roadblocks, such as performance challenges within solutions for key strategic initiatives.
• Cost Optimization Identification: Engage with appropriate stakeholders to recommend or assess opportunities to drive cost efficiencies aimed at simplicity, configurability, and the eventual elimination of technical debt associated with Pharmacy Services applications.

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$131,500.00 - $303,195.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
