Job Summary
A temporary laboratory position for a polymer science and engineering research associate is available to complete laboratory research for a federal grant. The grant funding will expire on September 30, 2025 and the position will end at that time.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
+ Synthesis of block copolymers by cationic polymerization and other controlled polymerization techniques.
+ Purification of synthesized polymers.
+ Spectroscopy charaterizaton of synthesized polymers.
+ Sample preparation and imaging analysis.
+ Maintaining laboratory notebook and preparation of written reports.
+ Providing weekly reports for sponsor.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Skilled in controlled polymerization techniques, including ability to work in glovebox, conduct low temperature cationic polymerizations, purify raw materials and verify composition.
+ Experience in RAFT polymerization.
+ Experience in monomer synthesis, purification, and analysis.
+ Knowledge of advanced polymer characterization techniques, including SQUID, AFM, SEM, TEM, SAXS, WAXS, thermal analysis, and mechanical analysis.
+ Ability to process polymers by thermal and solution techniques.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
+ Ability to travel to collaborator laboratories across the state.
+ Experience working in interdisciplinary research team.
+ Skilled in Minitab, Excel, Matlab, ChemDraw, and Origin.
+ Ability to learn new laboratory techniques and software.
