Lanier Technical College – Hall County campus ( www.laniertech.edu ) is conducting a search for the following full-time, salaried, FLSA non-exempt, benefit-eligible position. POSITION : PAYROLL SPECIALIST
REPORTS TO: Director of Human Resources
SALARY RANGE : Low $40’s, depending on education, qualifications, and experience
EFFECTIVE : The position is available now
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Under general supervision, is responsible for entire payroll processing function of all full-time and part-time employees; including processing all taxes, vendor bills, and accounting reporting functions. Analyzes periodic reports and reconciles information for Accounting. Provides required information on each employee to the I.T. department and enters in Banner. Maintains payroll file information. Provides information to employees on benefit programs, tax withholding options, and payment deductions.
Major Duties :
• Reviews payroll data for accuracy and enters payroll transactions/data into the payroll system;
• Reviews and/or reconciles employee payroll records. Identifies errors and makes corrections;
• Maintains all payroll records, and provides information based on regulations and confidentiality requirements;
• Reconcile/process payments for all payroll-related vendors, such as: ERS, GSEPS, TRS, SHBP, GDCP, Flexible Benefits, all employee garnishments, bankruptcies, and child support orders, Lincoln Financial, Valic, and LTC Foundation;
• Provides required information on each employee to the I.T department, i.e. new hire, change, termination; and also enters employee data into Banner;
• Processes payment and reporting of monthly and quarterly Federal and State taxes;
• Processes monthly reporting of retirees working at our College to ERS and TRS;
• Processes vouchers of all monthly wire transfers and monthly GAAP entries of employer fringe for Accounting;
• Processes confirmation of Direct Deposit transmission with bank (monthly, after payroll closes);
• Calculates and submits new payroll amount to Vice President in order to transfer funds to the payroll account (monthly, after payroll closes);
• Completes routine payroll-related forms, i.e. verification of employment, etc.;
• Advises employees on benefit programs, tax withholding options, payroll-related laws, payment deductions, deferred compensation, etc.;
• Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Associate’s Degree AND three (3) years of work-related experience, i.e. payroll or accounting, etc. NOTE: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Ability to analyze and interpret payroll data and statistics;
• Knowledge of general accounting principles;
• Ability to understand the relationship between payroll and financial systems;
• Ability to work independently;
• Knowledge of pay and benefit processes;
• Knowledge of records retention practices;
• Effective skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs;
• Effective skills in interpersonal relations;
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : (in addition to minimum qualifications & competencies)
• Postsecondary education or degree in accounting or business;
• Payroll work experience in a post-secondary education environment;
• Work experience in using an Oracle-based payroll software or a cloud-based payroll software;
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) language skills.
Physical Demands
Occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight, up to 20 pounds. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion is utilized for data entry purposes.
State of GA benefits include: A choice of retirement plans (Georgia State Employees’ Pension and Savings Plan or Teachers’ Retirement System), health and flexible benefits insurance options, sick leave and annual leave accruals (10 hours each on a monthly basis), and 13 state holidays. This position is available to telework one day per week after six (6) months of employment.
