Job Title: Phlebotomist II
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
+ Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, and demonstrate techniques using straight and/or butterfly needles.
+ Understand and comply with all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
+ Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
+ Follow procedures specific to protocol necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
+ Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).
+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting, with a preference for 2 years of experience.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in venipuncture, blood collection, pediatric phlebotomy, and customer service.
+ Flexibility to work hours between 7am-8:30pm, with potential for 12-hour shifts.
+ Availability to work Saturdays.
Work Environment
The position involves floating between multiple sites. Shift falls between the hours of 7am-8:30pm. Candidate must be flexible to working Saturdays as well.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
