    Job Title: Construction Materials TechnicianJob Description

     

    As a Construction Materials Technician, you will perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. You will be responsible for communicating with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and others regarding the construction site, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection requirements and results. You will transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Additionally, you will prepare and submit data and observations in the form of written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Project Manager. Maintenance and cleaning of equipment, vehicles, and work areas are essential duties, and you may assist with scheduling and dispatching technicians to project sites while adhering to strict safety standards.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials.

    + Communicate effectively with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractor representatives.

    + Transport material samples to the laboratory with proper documentation.

    + Prepare and submit detailed reports on data and observations.

    + Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.

    + Assist with scheduling and dispatching technicians to project sites.

    + Adhere to strict safety standards.

    Essential Skills

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    + Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in construction materials testing or equivalent training.

    + Experience with laptop computer use and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

    + ACI certification in areas such as Soils/Aggregates Field Testing Technician Grade I or Concrete Strength Testing Technician.

    + Certification in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.

    + Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

    + Valid driver's license with an acceptable violation history.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in categories such as Asphalt, Concrete, or Soils.

    + 2 to 5 years' experience in construction materials testing with asphalt, masonry, soils, and concrete.

    + Proficiency with technology and ability to utilize reporting programs.

    + Knowledge of nuclear gauge and nuclear density gauge operation.

    Work Environment

    The position is based onsite at a construction materials testing lab, offering a Monday to Friday day shift schedule. During the summer, expect to work 50+ hours per week, while winter hours will be closer to 40 hours per week. The role supports high-profile commercial projects and provides opportunities for growth through further certifications.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
