Job Title: Outside Machinist

Job Description

We are seeking a 1st Class Outside Machinist with an active or recently active secret security clearance to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overhaul and repair of pumps, motors, valves, and other auxiliary equipment. The work will take place at HII and NNSY in VA. Specific submarine torpedo tube or sail experience is required. Candidates must provide their own PPE, including a hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes. No medical qualifications or specific certifications are needed for this position.

Responsibilities

+ Overhaul and repair pumps, motors, valves, and other auxiliary equipment.

+ Perform open, inspect, and repair work on components of marine seawater, hydraulic, and diesel systems.

+ Repair and restore propulsion shafts, shaft couplings, or vibration reducers.

+ Remove, inspect, and repair various fairwater, stern plane, and/or steering & diving system components.

+ Remove, inspect, and repair various components of submarine sail, including periscope, masts, and antennas.

+ Repair and overhaul ship’s weapons and ordnance systems, such as torpedo tubes, launchers, and weapons handling equipment.

+ Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components.

Essential Skills

+ Active or recently active secret security clearance.

+ Experience as a Machinist Mate, Engineman, Gas Turbine Mechanic, or Gunners Mate.

+ Specific submarine torpedo tube or sail experience.

+ Troubleshooting and mechanical skills.

+ Experience with marine equipment, valves, and pumps.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience in any of the following areas is beneficial: marine seawater systems, hydraulic systems, diesel systems, propulsion shafts, shaft couplings, vibration reducers, fairwater, stern plane, steering & diving systems, submarine sail components, ship’s weapons and ordnance systems.

Work Environment

The work will be performed in a shipyard environment. Candidates must provide their own tools of the trade and personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toed shoes. Hard hats, safety glasses, and ear protection will be provided. The work is typically conducted in a dynamic and physically demanding environment, requiring attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
