Position Summary
CSU’s Small Animal Internal Medicine ( SAIM ) service is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to support the daily clinical operations of the SAIM department. This position will be actively involved in patient care, diagnostic procedures, and advanced endoscopic procedures. The SAIM service specializes in diagnosing and managing complex and chronic internal conditions in small animals, aiming to improve quality of life through accurate diagnosis, long-term treatment planning, and progressive monitoring.
Position Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in veterinary/animal health technology
- Registered or provisionally registered as a Veterinary Technician ( RVT or PVT ) through the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies ( DORA )
- Certification through the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians ( CACVT ) or eligibility to obtain it
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience working as a veterinary technician
- Experience in IV catheter placement, venipuncture, endoscopy, and client communication
- Proficiency in teaching or mentoring
- Strong organizational and computer skills
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and evolving environment
- Knowledge of animal restraint using fear-free techniques
- Strong attention to detail and ability to remain calm in high-stress situations
For a Veterinary Technician role:
+ Registered as a Veterinary Technician (VT) or Provisional Veterinary Technician ( PVT ) through the Department of Regulatory Agencies ( DORA ).
+ Graduate of accredited veterinary technician program with greater than one years’ experience in veterinary medicine.*Please note, a transcript or diploma must be attached to this application to demonstrate graduation from the vet tech program.
+ SUBSTITUTIONS :Two years of experience as defined by the department will substitute for each year of required education. A bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in veterinary/animal health technology will substitute for the associate degree and, at the agency’s discretion, the three years of experience.
+ NOTE : VETERINARY PRACTICE ACT – Effective January 1, 2024, anyone wanting to use the titles Registered Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician, RVT , or VT will have to be certified through the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians ( CACVT ) AND registered through the Department of Regulatory Agencies ( DORA ). Duty/Responsibility
Provides technical care for small animal patients including venipuncture, IV catheterization, fluid administration, urinary catheterization, cystocentesis, and administration of blood products or IV medications. Assists with thoracocentesis, abdominocentesis, joint taps, bone marrow aspirates, and esophagostomy or low profile feeding tube placement. Monitors inpatients and performs minor procedures under veterinary supervision. Aims to ensure optimal patient comfort and safety.

Duty/Responsibility
Assists the doctors and faculty with advanced fiber-optic procedures including endoscopy, laparoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, and cystoscopy. Maintains, cleans, and sterilizes fiber-optic equipment. Coordinates procedure setup, including scheduling, anesthesia prep, room readiness, and supplies to ensure efficient workflow.

Coordinates incoming client calls, prescription refills, and appointment requests. Schedules ultrasounds, manages communication through the SAIM techline and prescription line, and helps triage cases for appropriate scheduling. Interviews clients and collects patient histories.
