Position Description:
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions:
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform research in data-driven transportation system engineering with focus on highway safety, traffic operations and control, and analysis and application of trajectory data to advanced research such as near-crash studies. The responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Research in the area of traffic operation and control and traffic management.
+ Highway safety studies with focus on performance measurement of implemented engineering countermeasures and development of proactive strategies.
+ Predictive highway safety studies using vehicular trajectory data.
+ Collaborative research with multidisciplinary teams.
+ Publish research findings in high quality journals and present at conferences.
+ Mentor and collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students.
+ Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or be in the final stage of completing their doctoral degree.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills, and
+ Proficiency in computer programming for research.

Required Qualifications:
PhD in area of project specialization. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

About the Department and/or College:
The Transtech Research Laboratory in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering of Texas Tech University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in general traffic engineering. The candidate is expected to work with a group of highly motivated graduate and undergraduate students and take a leading role in the lab. Those who have established achievements in one or more of the following areas are welcome to apply: data-driven highway safety analysis, traffic operation and control, traffic modeling, analysis of high-resolution trajectory data, and predictive highway safety analysis.
Review will begin immediately and continue until the position is fixed. The initial appointment will be 12 months with possible extension depending on the funding condition and the individual’s performance. Competitive salary, commensurate based on experience.
