We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our SSP orgnaization within Microsoft Security. At SSP (Services Security and Privacy), we build and scale cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions that safeguard Microsoft's vast ecosystem. Our team is at the forefront of engineering applications and frameworks that address some of the most critical challenges in the security domain—including, but not limited to: - Data Protection: Developing secure data lifecycle solutions that ensure confidentiality, integrity, and compliance across services. - Ecosystem Security: Hardening the security posture of the broader Microsoft application ecosystem through threat modeling, secure development practices, and continuous monitoring. - Intrusion Detection and Prevention: Designing and deploying intelligent systems to detect anomalies, mitigate intrusions in real time, and proactively block threats before they materialize. - Access Management Security: Innovating secure and scalable access control systems that support fine-grained authorization, zero trust principles, and seamless user experiences. We operate at cloud scale, partnering across engineering, product, and research teams to embed security and privacy by design. Responsibilities
+ Simulate real-world identity and access threats to validate security boundaries, uncover abuse pathways, and inform proactive mitigations.
+ Design and build tooling that automates detection and validation of authorization flaws at cloud scale—powering threat emulation across Microsoft services.
+ Lead security deep dives into authentication and access control models, collaborating with engineers to embed least privilege and Zero Trust principles by default.
+ Translate emerging threats into actionable insights, turning intelligence into real-world test cases that strengthen Microsoft’s cloud security posture.
+ Influence long-term security architecture, guiding secure identity patterns and policies across Azure and Microsoft’s broader ecosystem.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
+ 2+ years of hands-on experience working within large-scale cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP),with deep familiarity in distributed systems and service boundaries.
**Qualifications - Other Requirements:** Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications
+ Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 4+ years of experience in cloud security, identity, or access management—focused on securing services at enterprise or hyperscale environments
+ Experience with ata querying and scripting for automation and analysis.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
