Start your healthcare career at UPMC Hamot as a Full-Time Specimen Processor, working 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM with rotating weekends and holidays required. You'll play a key role in supporting patient care by working behind the scenes in our clinical laboratory.

In this role, there will be the opportunity to-
+ Demonstrate a service-oriented approach by consistently displaying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in all interactions.
+ Monitor pneumatic tube stations and courier deliveries to ensure timely receipt and accurate processing of all incoming specimens.
+ Investigate and resolve specimen or request issues; complete appropriate documentation and escalate concerns as needed.
+ Perform specimen preparation, including centrifugation, labeling, aliquoting, and storage, following established laboratory protocols.
+ Accurately enter specimen receive times in the Laboratory Information System and respond to inquiries regarding specimen collection, test results, and reference ranges.
+ Adhere to all safety and infection control procedures when handling biohazardous materials and sharps to maintain a safe work environment.
+ Verify specimen identification against requisitions or labels; request and prepare tests in the system, and package specimens for transport to outside laboratories.
+ Prioritize and process all specimens according to lab policies; maintain a clean and organized work area, support onboarding of new team members, and assist with clerical duties as needed.
Required:
+ High School diploma or equivalent.
+ Good oral and written communication skills.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups and populations of external and internal customers (as well as co-workers) both by telephone and in person.
Preferred:
+ Three to six months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or other medical environment.
+ Knowledge of or experience in Medical Terminology and Laboratory Information systems.
+ Three to six months of experience in a service environment including call center, customer service center, or product distribution/fulfillment center. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
