Position Summary
This professional serves as the lead strategic communication partner to the Global Business Development team (BD) and a member of the BD Leadership Team.
In this role, you will manage a wide range of proactive communications, including planning, development, and implementation of global, internal and external strategies to support the business objectives of the group. Specific focus areas include enhancing/differentiating the reputation of Johnson & Johnson as a partner of choice, communicating/positioning deals and acquisitions in close coordination with Therapeutic Area Communication Leaders (TACLs), leading internal/organizational communications for the Global BD, including collaboration on thought leadership.
The role report to the Global Communications Leader, Research & Development (R&D) and External Innovation.
Key Responsibilities
+ Develop and execute, strategic, reputational communication approaches to achieve Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine business objectives.
+ Lead, develop and execute strategic communications driving our partner of choice narrative externally, working collaboratively with communication leaders supporting early-stage development communications such as Discovery, Product Development & Supply, as well as External Scientific Innovation, ensuring a consistent narrative across J&J.
+ Lead transaction communications, including acquisition announcements and acquisition closing communications.
+ Develop strong partnership with and serve as trusted advisor to leadership, including Global Head of Business Development and their leadership team.
+ Lead updating the BD Playbook as well as the development of toolkits, templates, etc. in support of J&J IM BD.
+ Participate in the BD team meetings, work closely with leaders to align communications with their strategies, provide counsel and anticipate opportunities and issues.
+ Develop key messages for use in media and investor relations; liaise with Investor Relations and Corporate Communications teams on key internal external opportunities and stages. Foster relationships with key media, social influencers, and liaise with key stakeholders in the industry.
+ In partnership with External Scientific Innovation Communications colleagues, manage strategy and execution of external-facing content related to Johnson & Johnson as partner of choice.
+ Partner with internal stakeholders in creating materials to support the vision and mission of BD. This may include messaging, presentations, enhanced content for JNJ.com, identifying and coordinating speaking engagements for leaders, and materials in support of ongoing recruiting efforts.
+ Manage public relations and other professional agencies and individual contributors or contractors, as assigned.
+ Lead and execute on internal communication strategies for BD, engaging employees and key internal stakeholders and increasing their level of understanding and engagement in strategic priorities. Key channels include intranet sites (HOME), quarterly townhalls and various internal initiatives. Audiences include Research & Development, Global Commercial Strategy Organization and Discovery, Product Development & Supply, and Innovation.
+ Build strong networks and relationships within to understand the attitudes, desires and needs of the team to help them achieve their full potential; partner closely with Human Resources and the Senior Leadership Teams on strategies and tactics to connect with and motivate employees.
+ Identify and act on key opportunities to eliminate/improve practices that stand in the way of achieving results and delivering valuable solutions by utilizing resources effectively and supporting a self-service communication model.
+ Drive outcomes by championing a measurement-based approach to internal communication, incorporating relevant metrics that are indicators of employee engagement and alignment.
+ Foster a One Team mindset across the business and work to unify, collaborate and drive for the best outcomes.
+ Participate in special communication projects, as assigned, working with cross-functional area teams and global communication leaders (both corporate and Innovative Medicine) as needed to meet business
Qualifications
Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree is required with a preference of study in the areas of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Investment Relations, Journalism or closely related field
+ Exceptional performer with minimum of ten (10) years of external experience managing communications in a company, NGO, government agency or public relations agency
+ Proven track record of successful public relations/communications, corporate communications, product approval and/or launch communications support and/or media relations achievements
+ Demonstrated ability to develop successful partnerships and influence with senior executives
+ Excellent judgement and professional maturity and ability to work effectively across levels, functions, regions, backgrounds
+ Demonstrated ability to craft compelling stories with superior written, oral and visual communication abilities
+ Experience working with national and local lay, professional/trade and social media
+ Deep familiarity with traditional, social and digital communications tools and channel
+ Superior ability to work effectively across functions, levels and business units
+ Proactive, self-starter and able to work independently and in a team environment
+ Independent decision-making and problem-solving related to implementation of efforts
+ Direct pharmaceutical/innovative medicine product experience a plus; global public relations experience is a strong plus
+ Position may require up to 10-15% travel (mostly domestic, with the possibility of international)

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
146,000 - 251, 850
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
