Position Summary
This position supports internal and external communications for the Executive Vice President (EVP), Innovative Medicine, R&D, Johnson & Johnson and the global Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine R&D organization. Reporting to the Global Communications Leader, R&D and External Innovation, this critical role will lead the execution of coordinated internal and external communications strategies for Innovative Medicine R&D, reinforcing the company’s narrative of leading where medicine is going.
In addition, this professional will supervise a direct report and work in close partnership with the J&J Innovative Medicine R&D Strategy, Portfolio & Operations (SP&O) team to ensure planning and execution of major events, including Leader meetings, Town Halls and critical external forums. They will work in partnership with Therapeutic Area Communication Leaders (TACLs), driving unified portfolio storytelling.
This role can be based in Spring House, PA, Titusville, NJ or New Brunswick, NJ.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Directly support the EVP, Innovative Medicine, R&D’s communications, including overseeing and ensuring effective coordination, consistent processes and standards, thereby driving reputation as well as business value.
+ Lead, develop and implement critical communications driving our innovation narrative externally, working collaboratively with J&J communication leaders supporting early-stage development communications such as Discovery, Product Development & Supply and the TACLs, ensuring a strong and consistent R&D narrative.
+ Drive workforce engagement strategies to inspire and increase the productivity of the R&D organization across global sites, integrating R&D strategic imperatives throughout the organization and into TAs and Functions.
+ Develop strong relationships and act as a trusted advisor to R&D Senior Leadership Team members; coach and guide them to engage and inspire the organization and external audiences in a dynamic, global environment.
+ Develop key messages for use in media and investor relations related to Innovative Medicine R&D; partnering with Investor Relations and Corporate Communications teams on key internal external opportunities and stages. Cultivate relationships with key media, social influencers, and industry stakeholders.
+ In partnership with the Global Innovative Medicine Executive Communications team, lead the strategy and refresh of the Innovative Medicine senior leaders Resource site, enabling strong and consistent communications from senior leaders.
+ Ensure ongoing collaboration, communication and close alignment with the Global Strategy and Portfolio Operations team, working to ensure communications are aligned with R&D priorities.
+ Identify and act on key opportunities to improve practices that stand in the way of achieving results and deliver valuable solutions by using resources effectively and enabling a self-service model to drive ongoing cadence of internal communications.
+ Lead, develop and inspire direct reports. Manage public relations and other professional agencies, as well as individual contributors or contractors, as assigned.
+ Drive outcomes by leading a measurement-based approach to internal communications, incorporating relevant metrics that are indicators of employee engagement and alignment.
+ Champion a One Team approach across the business and work to unify, collaborate and aim for the best outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree is required with a preference of study in the areas of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Investment Relations, Journalism or closely related field
Experience and Skills:
**Required** :
+ Exceptional performer with a minimum of ten (10) years of external experience leading communications in a company, NGO, government agency or public relations agency
+ Consistent track record of successful public relations/communications, corporate communications, product approval and/or launch communications support and/or media relations achievements
+ Proven ability to develop successful partnerships and influence with senior executives
+ Excellent judgement and professional maturity and ability to work optimally across levels, functions, regions, backgrounds
+ Proven ability to craft compelling stories with outstanding written, oral and visual communication abilities
+ Experience working with national and local consumer, pharmaceutical and healthcare industry and social media
+ Deep familiarity with traditional, social and digital communication tools and channels
+ Superior ability to work effectively across functions, levels and business units
+ Proactive, self-starter and able to work independently and in a team environment
+ Independent decision-making and problem-solving
+ Direct pharmaceutical/innovative medicine product experience a plus; global public relations experience is a strong plus
+ Position may require up to 15% travel (domestic and international)

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
143,000 - 251,850
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
