POSITION OVERVIEW

As a CNC Operator at JGM, you will be an essential part of our structural steel fabrication team, responsible for operating and maintaining various CNC machinery, including CNC plasma cutting tables and beamline drilling machines. Your expertise will ensure the accurate and efficient production of steel components in accordance with detailed specifications, helping us deliver high-quality results on time and safely.

RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Machine Setup and Operation

+ Set up and operate CNC machinery including plasma cutting tables, beamline drill lines, and other automated cutting or machining systems. Load programs, set work coordinates, and verify initial part alignment to ensure accurate processing.

+ CNC Plasma Cutting

+ Operate CNC plasma cutting equipment to cut steel plates to specified dimensions and shapes. Monitor cut quality and torch performance, and make necessary adjustments to maintain clean edges and tight tolerances.

+ Beamline Drilling

+ Operate CNC beamline drilling machines for structural steel processing. Ensure proper alignment of beams and profiles, monitor hole accuracy, and handle tooling changes as needed.

+ Tooling and Maintenance

+ Select, install, and maintain cutting tools, drill bits, and consumables for various CNC machines. Conduct routine machine maintenance and cleaning to prevent breakdowns and extend machine life.

+ Programming and Troubleshooting

+ Interpret CNC programs and make minor edits or offset adjustments to optimize performance. Troubleshoot common issues such as torch misfires, spindle stalls, or alignment problems to minimize downtime.

+ Quality Assurance

+ Inspect finished components for dimensional accuracy and surface quality using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

+ Review work against engineering drawings and shop standards to ensure compliance.

+ Material Handling

+ Load and unload materials using forklifts, overhead cranes, and pallet jacks. Stage raw materials and move finished products to appropriate locations.

+ Documentation and Reporting

+ Maintain accurate production logs, inspection reports, and maintenance records. Report non-conformances or mechanical issues to supervisors promptly.

+ Safety and Compliance

+ Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace.

+ Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all OSHA and company safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

+ High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in CNC operation or machining is a plus.

+ Hands-on experience with CNC plasma cutters, beamline drilling systems, or similar structural steel machinery.

+ Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and CAD files.

+ Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

+ Familiarity with G-code, NC programming, and machine-specific control interfaces.

+ Solid mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication processes.

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

+ Capable of working independently or as part of a production team.

+ Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.

+ Willingness to work flexible shifts or overtime as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

+ Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds regularly.

+ Capable of standing, walking, bending, and operating machinery for extended periods.

+ Must be able to climb ladders or work from platforms when necessary.

+ Good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity for inspecting work and reading drawings.

+ Must pass medical evaluations for respirator use (if required for plasma cutting).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

+ Fabrication shop environment with exposure to loud noise, hot metal, sparks, fumes, and heavy machinery.

+ Some tasks may involve working outdoors or in varying weather conditions.

+ PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and flame-resistant clothing must be worn as required.

+ Employees must remain alert, safety-conscious, and proactive in identifying hazards.

IMPORTANT NOTES

This is a safety-sensitive position. In accordance with JGM's safety policy and applicable regulations, individuals actively using medical marijuana are not eligible for this role.

Candidates must successfully pass a drug screening, including testing for marijuana, prior to starting employment.
