    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order.     The mission of the Police Laboratory is to analyze forensic evidence in such a manner as to ensure the integrity, quality, accuracy and timeliness of the scientific findings, opinions, interpretations and/or conclusions.

     

    The Department is seeking a qualified member of the service to fill the managerial position of Criminalist, (Detailed to Assistant Director of Laboratory) (Managerial Detail), M-II, designated Assistant Director, Firearms Analysis Section, Police Laboratory.

    Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, Police laboratory, the incumbent for this executive level position will:

    Direct and supervise the day-to-day activities of the section;

     

    Ensure procedures, protocols, quality control measures, and training manuals reflect established, standards and compliance with the laboratory’s accrediting bodies, accreditation requirements, and the laboratory’s own management system;

     

    Assist in developing plans to address training needs of current and new personnel;

     

    Ensure data is gathered in order to aid in daily operations and improvements;

     

    Ensure information such as updates, improvements, and concerns, is shared with staff through regular and documented meetings;

     

    Coordinate with Quality Assurance and Budget and Procurement Unit regarding calibration, maintenance, and service controls for appropriate equipment;

     

    Coordinate with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that issues of nonconformance that are initiated in the section are resolved;

     

    To provide overall guidance and technical leadership to the section including resolving technical issues;

     

    To approve deviations from the appropriate technical section manuals;

     

    To assess and recommend candidates for technical vacancies.

    Qualifications

    1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, with specialization in criminalistics, forensic science, chemistry, biology, physics, molecular genetics, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, entomology, anthropology, ecology or a closely related scientific or engineering field.

    Salary Min: $ 73,068.00
