    Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) seeks to fill the position of Full-time Instructor of Music and Recording Technology. The Full-time Instructor of Music and Recording Technology in the Liberal Arts Department. This is a full-time position.

    Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM:

    + Master’s degree in Music (or any graduate degree with 18 graduate credit hours in Music)

    + At least two years teaching college-level music recording technology courses (Pro Tools, etc.) including serving as a graduate assistant

    + Pro Tools certification and/or demonstrable professional profile as an accomplished audio recording engineer.

    + Proficient in music production, audio engineering, or sound recording, with a portfolio of professional work.

    + Proficient in teaching or training within a higher education setting or equivalent industry experience.

    + Proficient with digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live.

    + Proficient knowledge of developments within the audio recording industry and common industry business practices.

    + Proficient understanding of music history and theory.

    + Proficient communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and industry.

    + Basic skill in the creation of engaging lesson plans, interactive activities, and hands-on experiences to enhance the learning process.

    + Basic skill in program management, including curriculum development, assessment, and student advisement.

    + Basic presentation skills for conducting lectures, workshops, and seminars.

    PREFERRED:

    + Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Music with an emphasis in music production, audio recording, sound design, or related subjects

    + At least five years teaching college-level music recording technology courses (Pro Tools, etc.) including serving as a graduate assistant

    + Professional profile as a practicing audio engineer

    + Experience in film scoring, multimedia sound design, or live sound engineering.

    + Knowledge of diverse music genres and their cultural significance.

    + Academic program management

    + Budget management

    + Equipment management

    + Familiarly with course content delivery using a learning management system (LMS) such as Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, etc.

    + Track record of cross-disciplinary collaboration

    + Involvement in community outreach and service related to music and audio engineering

    + Engagement with music industry stakeholders

     

    Job Concepts

     

    The Instructor of Music and Recording Technology plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of music recording engineers and ensuring the success and growth of BRCC’s Music Studio Production program. The Instructor of Music and Recording Technology is responsible for teaching courses in music history, theory, and recording technology while also overseeing the management and development of the Music Studio Production program and its recording studio facilities. This role requires a combination of instructional excellence, program administration, equipment maintenance, and industry engagement to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, workforce-centered education and the success of the program.
