    Responsibilities

As our Labor & Delivery Nurse at St. John's, you’ll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to appreciate that routine is never routine. We have some wonderful days in this department and get to be with people through huge milestones in their lives. We also have some hard days and are with people as they grieve. You must be sensitive and understanding to different circumstances. Above all else, you must remain calm in an emergency. A patient’s status can change quickly and it’s never good for the patient or family to see the nurse in a panic. You’re calm. You’re in control. You’re handling the situation.

In keeping with the Dignity Health core values, the Clinical Nurse III (CNIII) in L&D is an RN with advanced skills who is an expert in Obstetric nursing care and is also capable of directing/coaching other L&D staff in the daily operations of the unit. The CNIII facilitates the smooth operation of the nursing unit. The CNIII acts as a mentor, preceptor, and resource for the Clinical Nurse I and II, as well as other staff members. The CNIII provides advanced consultation to other units and hospital staff regarding antepartum, intrapartum, and immediate postpartum patient care problems.
