THE POSITION
The Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services is on the lookout for a veterinarian who possesses specialized training in epidemiology and a strong enthusiasm for disease investigation to become a part of our team. In this role, you will collaborate with fellow veterinarians and animal health professionals within the Department to carry out investigations during disease outbreaks, as well as to implement strategies aimed at preventing and controlling diseases that significantly impact agriculture in Pennsylvania.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will be responsible for carrying out tracing activities and conducting field investigations aimed at preventing, detecting, and eliminating hazardous transmissible diseases in animals throughout the Commonwealth. Your responsibilities will encompass managing epidemiological studies focused on significant diseases, coordinating grant funding efforts, overseeing surveillance testing and data collection processes, and offering guidance to both internal and external stakeholders regarding epidemiological investigations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Three years of experience in veterinary medicine related to food animal health, one year of which must have been in epidemiology or in veterinary medicine related to epizootiology.
Special Requirement:
+ Possession of a valid license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a state Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
