This is an exciting opportunity for a technical hands-on Design Engineer to join BD - Advanced Patient Monitoring (APM). This role will work with R&D New Product Development in Mechanical Engineering to design components, assemblies, fixtures, and create drawings. This includes part design, detail drawings, engineering assessments, documentation, technical writing, and change control.
How you’ll make an impact:
+ Supporting R&D Engineers throughout the design and development process including: rapidly prototyping designs, evaluating materials, troubleshooting failures, proposing and evaluating design improvements.
+ Build prototype devices for design evaluation and concept selection.
+ Develop, design and implement efficient and useful fixtures and tooling for manufacturing and process improvements of new or modified products / processes.
+ Performing feasibility testing as needed to develop and verify device function.
+ Develop and execute tests for new and improved design concepts, processes, procedures, and test methods.
+ Performing accurate measurement and testing techniques utilizing calipers, micrometers, microscopes, rulers, optical comparators, vision systems, video comparators, tensile/compression (push/pull) testing systems (Instron), inspection tooling and fixtures.
+ Create and maintain engineering drawings including new creation and revision control.
+ Maintaining accurate documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, and procedures with good documentation practices.
+ Interfacing with R&D Engineers and other technicians, Manufacturing, and Quality, to ensure compliance with internal procedures and Protocols.
+ Create and write technical and change control documents
What you'll need (Required):
+ Mechanical Engineering Degree with 2+ years of experience in a highly regulated industry – OR –
+ 6+ years’ experience in a highly regulated industry
What else we look for (Preferred):
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills
+ Problem solving methodology, tolerance analysis, and GDP (Good Documentation Practices)
+ Proven expertise in usage of SolidWorks CAD and MS Office Suite
+ Experience reading, interpreting, and creating drawings
+ Ability to read, comprehend, write, and speak English
+ Full understanding of CAD design principles, techniques and procedures including parametric solid models
+ Full understanding of ASME Y14.5M-1994 drawing standards
+ Advanced ability to utilize 2-D and 3-D CAD software
+ Good understanding of fabrication processes (e.g machining, molding) to leverage in creating and evaluating designs
+ Full understanding of materials and materials properties
+ Good understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) concepts and principles
+ Knowledge of and adherence to Edwards Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines
+ Strict attention to detail
+ Must be able to work in a team environment, including inter-departmental teams and representing the organization on specific projects
+ Ability to build productive internal/external working relationships

For California (CA), the base pay range for this position is $72,000 to $102,000 (highly experienced).
The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
